Furniture Shopping Near Schaffhausen

Can anyone recommend some good, but not too expensive furniture shops near Schaffhausen? I know there is an IKEA in Zurich, but I was thinking maybe some shops across the border in Germany. Would furniture be less expensive there?

Actually I read on another thread (from a few years ago) that Tomcat could recommend names of furniture shops across the border...I'd love it if you would share the shop names Tomcat.

yes go to Mobel markt in Dogern, they ship to Switzerland, and you dont pay the tax ... www.moebelmarkt-dogern.de its only 30 minutres from schaffhausen.

did you fly there? with no traffic from SH-Jestetten-Griessen-Lauchringen-Tiengen-Waldshut- and then comes after a while Dorgern at least 45-60MIn.

Go to Singen, just hop on the Autobahn after Thayingen and that would be a 30 min drive and alot easier to . There are plenty of furniture shops in the Industriebebiet.

Möbelmarkt Dogern is a great store with good furniture, just the drive there....but if you do not mind driving, definetly worth it.

Regarding the tax, do you mean that the prices listed on the website would then be deducted whatever the VAT percentage is in Germany? So if a sofa is 1000 euro, I would get to deduct the VAT from that price? Just wondering. However, if this is the case, the delivery cost to Schaffhausen might make up any tax deductions, no?

I like the furniture at that shop (and love that it has a good website with all the prices)...it's very helpful to see what things are going to cost, as we will have quite a bit of furniture to purchase when we arrive in Schaffhausen.

Blampman, can you recommend any specific shops in Singen, or are they all about the same? Websites are always nice!

There are a big INTERIO and a big PFISTER in Dübendorf, less than half hour from Schaffhausen.

Möbel Casa is in Lauchringen Germany, also half hour car drive from Schaffhausen.

http://www.moebel-dick.de/casa-four-you-de/kontakt.php The furniture there is more expensive than IKEA, similar price level as Interio. If you can manage the tax return, maybe it will be cheaper.

I suggest you just hold for another one month, then the sales season will come and you may find some discounted furniture but with good quality from Pfister or Interio.

How does the tax return work when buying furniture in Germany and shipping it to Switzerland? Does the store not just take the tax amount off the listed price when purchasing it in the shop? I guess that would be too easy. Do you pay the full price with tax included and then get reimbursed later after filing a document? Are we talking about German VAT or is there an import tax we must pay to the Swiss government? Sorry for all the questions...I just have no clue about this.

We won't be arriving in Schaffhausen until the 1st of August. Will there still be some furniture sales going on at that time?

We bought a teapot and several teacups in CASA. We paid the full amount and filed a document from the CASA shop, then we got it stamped from the ZOLL (Germany customs). Later we brought back the document to CASA and got the 19% german VAT refund from CASA in cash.

If you ship your furnitures with a big van, I do not know whether you need to pay the swiss tax. But I know CASA can deliver the furniture from Germany to Switzerland and get the tax refund done for you. They have special procedure for customers from Switzerland. Maybe you can give them a call.

August is still the sales season.

But Jason surely the shipping would bankrupt us.

Have a look at π Pi Lifestyle in Neuhausen. They have a great collection of solid wood furniture, mostly asian style, but also in very nice contemporary design.
