Gangnam Style - Love it or hate it?

By far the best version

I'm an old git & I love it. ZappaJr showed it to me a few weeks ago & I thought it was brilliant immediately. Reading the background makes it much more interesting. Psy studied at Berkeley, not your typical rapper... Apart from the fact that the whole thing is a p*ss take of pretentious snobs, he is clearly not worried about making himself look ridiculous, which is hardly typical of the dull standard-issue Jpop & Kpop.

Two other versions worth checking, assuming that you enjoyed the original... are one focussing on his sexy partner Heuna where she imitates the silly squeaky Gangnam accent & a live version with everyone waving blue lights and singing along. Aaaaah.

That's BERKLEE, not Berkeley (the former being a music school in Boston, the latter a uni in California) as well as Boston College.

I think I'm going to carve a Psy pumpkin this year for Halloween.

Oops, thanks for that. Still, studying at the same place as jazz guitar god Pat Metheny is almost as surprising as what I wrote...

Stupid video and horrible song

the *Matin* newspaper has made a top 20 of the different parodies made by people.

That's the thing I like about that song (and others, like Gotye's ), is that people do their own version of it.

And they missed Mitt Romney's version. Very funny, even if you don't like the song. Easier for you to Google it than it is for me to link it .

hilarious!

there is also another swiss quote.

The best version, without music....

I didn't realize this had blown up ( in popularity) in the U.S. and a bunch of other foreign countries until I was watching the news on TV (which I rarely do) and saw this and thought wtf. I honestly don't get why it's such a megahit and I think PSY will be another one hit wonder. I wish I could do the dance though.

I find the music to be a bit annoying but it's starting to grow on me. The video is hilarious though. It's nice that this song has put Korea on the map for a reason other than Communist North Korea and Kim Jong Il nonsense. I feel it's such a tiny overlooked country, hiding in the shadows of its bigger neighbors. I'm surprised that non-Korean people like it that much, especially when they can't even understand the lyrics. But how many people can actually understand rap lyrics anyways.

I don't mind it, it's something different than the photocopied pop you hear on the radio.

LOL I had never seen the original video, it is hilarious!

The music is catchy...having said that...

Tis total tosh to me but I enjoy watching my friend's kids going mental to it. The 3-year old shrieks and starts jumping all over the place and her 11 month old twin siblings bounce away like mad to it every time.

Even with the wonderful entertainment from the kids, I nearly had to get up and walk out when the lil' girl insisted on watching it again for something like the 10th time in succession!

Well, i suppose it's doing something to bridge the cultural differences between east Asian and Western cultures.

Ok, I'm clutching at straws here.

That is so cute! I didn't know he was even reaching the 0-3 years age range.

Hehe! Would seem so if those kiddies are anything to go by.

Mind you, the 3-year old is also into the fitness workout program we are currently on and enjoys showing off her mastery of some of the more complicated moves her mom, aunt and I have yet to...er...fully master!

Kids these days, eh!?

The Gen'vois staile

an genevan audio parody, made by a local comedian.

Since it's in French, you will perhaps not appreciate the lyrics, which describe the *standard genevan*, but you still can appreciate the *genevan accent*

Being a Genevan, I find this really funny

edit : by the way, if you remember this thread , you can hear the *adieu thing*

Thank you Suisse Romand !

For those of us who happen to be genevois(es) that was just hilarious !

Gotta love our city

Though it is catchy and played everywhere in hundreds of different versions.. I just can't understand the fascination about it.. Oh well, probably just me

Surely Catchy and played everywhere has everything to do with it's success ? A masterpiece it ain't but a disposable pop song with lots of subtle hints to pump up the jam it perhaps might be...
