Anyway just did a simulation and check this:
Item subtotal: 53.10 CHF
Shipping: 65.90 CHF
Duty & VAT: 6.40 CHF
Order Total: 125.50 CHF
defintely not worth it.... and this was "standard" shipping (9-15 days!)
Thanks!
Like anything, it depends. I think banana republic is higher end, gap in the middle and old navy at the bottom. But the jeans and stuff are good, and I think if you wash them carefully, they are fine. From what I've seen of H&M, banana republic and most of the gap are nicer, old navy is touch and go. That's just my opinion, though. YMMV
Check out all of their shipping options. I order a fair amount of stuff from land's end, and always ship via the US Postal Service, first class. Your stuff is neither insured nor tracked, but it's much less expensive than UPS, and your duty and service charges on this end are less because it comes via swiss post, not via a premium service.
I guess it depends on brand loyalty, how much you require in terms of clothing and how often you take a trip back "home".
At the moment, my husband is traveling back and forth to the States quite a bit, so I am sending Lands End and Target stuff to his office. But, if this weren't the case, we would come back from our once a year trip to New York with very full suitcases.
If you factor in extra luggage charges - I know that Continental will charge you at least $50 if your suitcase is over 50 pounds - then the shipping doesn't seem that expensive. Moreover, who wants to lug around a super heavy suitcase? Did I mention that we are a family of 6?
The Old Navy ones are, IMHO, significantly better quality than H &M.
Yes - Banana on top, Gap in the Middle and Old Navy at the bottom. They are all the same company and are set up that way.
I have noticed that since then, Piperlime, the shoe selling party of their group has significantly reduced the choices in mens shoes. I have big hoof paddles, so here in Switzerland, I am usually stuck with the choices in Dosenbach where freaks and Carnival workers shop. None of the four pairs I picked out a month ago still exist on their website.
As far as quality of the merchandise goes, I have been to Old Navy before as well as the Gap, and have perused Banana Republic from a distance. Old Navy's prices are low. But in the States you pretty much get what you pay for. A $39 dollar blazer will fit like a $39 blazer. Move exuberantly continuously, and no one will notice. Stop dancing and face the laughter.
The Gap is a good source for decent quality clothing. I owned a pair of khaki trousers I purchased from the Gap and had a pretty good record for meeting women while wearing them. That says a lot for Khaki trousers, and it it says a lot for my butt, when I was 25. Now I'm 44. I don't know what happened to those trousers, or my butt. Damn to both.
As far as Banana Republic goes, I lack the self esteem to actually enter one of their stores. I have been to actual banana republics before, and they were never so trendy as the store that has adopted their stigma. On a pass, I was hoping to see safari jackets and pith helmets, but instead saw snotty clerks who looked at my hair cut with contempt. My guess is that higher prices may not correspond to higher quality. As long as I think that, I will feel better about myself.
I've also purchased some things at Old Navy - mostly thermal shirts - when I lived in the Chicago area and they did their job decently for a while. I know they remained comfortable for about 3yrs but after that, I moved to Florida and no longer had much need for thermal shirts so can not recall how they held up in the long run. I *want* to say that they, along with another shirt or two purchased elsewhere, shrank in funny ways. Not that they got "small" but that the sleeves and shirt length shortened even though the size itself remained "true."
It really is not worth it. gutted
It is really worthwhile when Gap keeps on sending us emails with discount codes, usually 20-40% discount on the whole store.
Since last month however, we saw that they do international delivery, but we cannot use the discount codes anymore. It is only valid for the US. Last week for example, they had 30% discount throught all the stores but once you go to international checkout, you cannot put in the discount code in anymore. So we ended up sending the stuff to our friend as before.
