Just wondering if anyone knows why the prices of garbage bags vary so much in price from city to city?!? I find this pretty puzzling that the city directly next to me charges about 20 rappen less than where I live and the place we will be moving to charges about 50 rappen more. Any idea about the vast difference of price? Thanks
For the same reason that different cities likely have different electricity and water prices. I think each town is responsible for the collection and disposement of the trash. It can be that one dumping place services several towns, but the collection costs may be different based on size of the town. The corresponding bag prices will be different too. It really does depend on the costs to the town. I think the prices for the bags are then changed at the end of the year to adjust for and windfall or shortfall.
I dont know if this is that complicated. In the US, you were allowed to pick the types of bags you used for disposal but were charged by the town for picking up your garbage. Here you just prepay your trash pickup
So what's with the Zuri-sac's does all rubbish go in these?
Unless you can recycle it? There are big bins dotted around most areas where you can chuck glass, metal, oil and there are collections of paper and cardboard every couple of weeks. Anything bulky or dodgy can usually be disposed of once a month when the CargoTram comes around.
Fabulous thanks for that, I do recycle and I take all my bottles, plastic etc to the bins you mentioned. With paper and cardboard how is that collected? and why do they bother to sell black bags?
The black bags are if you have a communal bin for which you'd pay a fee. Often companies have this system.
Details on how to get rid of your collectable recyclables . Plus there is a shedload of info on this forum on this subject so have a poke around.
Blauring normally drops notes into the mailboxes telling the tenants when to put their bundled paper (no cardboard and no paper in paper bags) out on the sidewalk so they can pick it up. They come several times a year. Maybe that's the case in your neighborhood as well?
I live in riehen... we have to buy the bags, and then buy stickers to put on them... I don't know the exact charge, but a roll of bags and 12 stickers is somewhere in the mid 30's (chf) for me...
Because it is a communal taxe levied by your commune; they decide hence the difference from one village to another
You are right.
And I think that Denner has the best price.
Now it could go up to 5CHF a bag!!

Thanks! I’ll keep the KVA Linth (Glarus) in mind, that CO2 capture plan is interesting.
