we are looking at getting a new kitchen and would love to have an American garbage disposal built in the sink.
Has anyone come across them in Switzerland? Or has anyone brought their own from the the US and installed it themselves?
Thanks

seriously...where do you think this waste goes ? Switzerland isn't near an ocean where they can just pump it out to sea...
Swiss waste disposal, I believe is mostly incinerated at high temperature...
Your two other options are landfill, backyard burning or water pollution...
I had trouble with my sink clogging from this issue... I was so accustomed to my in-sink disposal as well as a strainer type drain cover before.
Hubby puts his dishes directly into the sink (without scraping first), as well as used tea bags... even though the trash is right there UNDER the sink... grrr AND as was the suggestion Sutter was given with regard to disposing of leftover food waste, that's what I was told upon arrival as well.
Just in case you are (or anyone else is) looking, I have found some strainers for the drain at one of my local Mùˆller stores. The ones I found are like these and work pretty well. I'm a bit squidgy about touching icky slimy stuff such as the greasy food particles which remain after washing dishes but, well, it's a lot better than calling the plumber out again. (They said it was the worst food clog they've seen in 10yrs )
I especially like them for getting rid of soft food material that doesn't really belong in the green bin, or otherwise stinks.
But I have bever seen them for sale or installed here. Does anyone know of any law etc saying they cannot be used here, or if it is because of restrictions on the nature of what may be flushed down the drain? e.g. shredded meat, fish, pasta etc
Some UK councils even subsidise their purchase as an effective waste disposal method.
Husbands not scraping dishes and putting teabags in sinks? I'm not getting married, ever.
Here, if it's not expressly forbidden, it's allowed.
