GE Tax Refund

Hello All,

Is anyone familiar with how long canton GE takes to handle a tax return/refund?

I filed my 2022 return in May, and they should owe me about 5k, just wondering when I should expect it.

Note: I realize they take their time, I'd just like to set some realistic expectations for myself,

Thanks

We were due a refund for 2021 taxes (filed in May 2022). I think we received it in early 2023.

The length of time needed to process your tax return is independent of the refund you seek. Typically a refund if any is credited within 30 days of the processing of your tax return.

The processing of the return can take several months. It depends on the workload of the team that is allocated your file. It also depends on the complexity of your tax return. If you file early you are likely to have a faster response. e.g., I usually file before the deadline of March 31st when presumably they have a lighter docket and I usually have their response by June or July. So 3-4 months with no summer break in between.

Had to PAY taxes - filed in 2021, took them forever to get to me - I paid them in 2023 the taxes owed. They owe me taxes this time for 2022 - I expect it to come shortly before I will be done filing for 2023.

As some people said before, seems it's more to do with when do they get around your actual case. They owe me a LOT of money for 2022 due to work I did in my main home (just bought a house) - I see it as a bonus if I get that cash, for now I just don't count on it too much.

On a side note: they are super helpful, I've called and seen them in person in the past when I needed clarity with something. So if you actually need the money badly, i would inquire directly with them.
