I work for a commission only sales job where there is lots of cold calling etc
I’m struggling to make ends meet in Switzerland and I’m considering moving back home to the United Kingdom however the logistics of such a big operation stress me out.
I would have to leave very quickly I understand in Switzerland you have to give 3 months notice on apartments what would happen if I suddenly disappeared I’m broke I can’t afford to pay all the notice I have like 20CHF
What would happen to all my debt with my health insurance etc if I disappeared?
Would they just write it off?
Serious answers please I can’t afford to pay all this off if I’m gonna leave I barely pay any of my bills I can’t believe how I have had an debt enforcement issues over the last 3 years lol
A Swiss debt enforcement notice (Betreibung) can only be served if you are resident. De-registering with the town hall and becoming thus a non-resident will mean that they can't be served. Though obviously for a while, simply not answering the door will help delay things.
Possibly not true. It may have been an EU thing (and so no longer the case after Brexit), but at one time a debt in Britain could be enforced in Switzerland, and vice versa.
First you have to get an enforcement order from a court. Then you present that to the court in Britain and ask them to enforce it based on the reciprocal agreement. I doubt anyone would bother!
The debt will eventually be written off, but do not expect to ever come to Switzerland again.
This is sad, my heart is broken. Does this means that people cold calling me offering me a bright financial future if I invest with the are not millionaires themselves? Faith in humanity lost
Maybe you should listen to those people you have no clue about financial services compared to me so come off your high horse and go back to your 9to5 pharma job
It’s not my fault I haven’t got any money I am trying to pay things I currently have an instalment plan to pay my insurance debt till 2050 10 CHF a month
I’d love to see you do better then what I’ve done for myself I was raped and beat in the uk I move to Switzerland without 200 quid in my account I lived with other people and moved in with them so I could register at the local immigration office
I eventually saved up enough money for a place on my own I have no qualifications I have brain damaged I’ve been stabbed beat raped
I’m simply asking for some advice on a forum and get attacked for really no reason
People like the guy who said about the bright financial future are the reason people kill themselves why can’t we all be nice it costs nothing to be kind why do we live in a world where people are just so horrible
This works is a horrible place thank you to everyone who did answer nicely and professionally
Because every few months you post on here with exactly the same story. You get the same good advice and even offers of personal help, and don't follow it up.
Help is available for your mental anguish, and your social and financial issues. You've been told where to get it. Your move.
First suggestion. Try looking for a full time job and then make a payment plan with your creditors. I assume you have the right to live here?
If you do decide to flee, I doubt anything will happen to you. It's a lot of hassle to chase you and enforce the debt in another country, and if they do you still get the chance to appear before a judge in the UK. If it's a very large amount owed to a single creditor, think CHF 25,000 or more, then maybe. Besides you can always declare bankruptcy and in the UK you'll be out of it in 1 - 2 years if you cooperate with your trustee.
I know this from a debt I was trying to enforce.
Same person did a runner from Switzerland leaving a trail of debt. Most wrote it off and I think I was the only one to pursue it - roughly GBP 10,000 In the end I heard from his bankruptcy trustee and I received the grand sum of GBP 100, paid over 12 months, so just 1% of the debt. For all the time and trouble it caused me it was really not worth it!!
By the way, nothing to stop you coming back to Switzerland, as immigration are not debt enforcers (unless you have offical fines to pay) though the moment you register to live here you can be certain the creditors will come knocking!!!!!
Good luck with it all but I really suggest the first option.
Unfortunately, good advice has been given several times. I remember Doropfiz wrote a very long list of things Justin could do. But apparently that was ignored.
As other said, have a look at what was written several times? Lots of good advice, if you want to take that up now.
Deregister. Let your landlord etc know you're leaving then just leave. (or leave then tell them). They should look for a replacement and they'll likely keep your deposit. Also inform other creditors. For any action they'll need to find you. If you don't tell anyone the debts will accrue without them knowing you can't pay.
