Geneva - American places to eat?

Are there any in Geneva?

Seen a few McDonalds there.....

Had enough local food after three days, eh?

Aside from fast food, there's Le Relais de l’Entrecôte at 49 Rue du Rhone.

They have steak, steak, booze, and lots of desserts. If you aren't in the mood for steak, then try elsewhere, as they just have steak. And booze and desserts. And it will cost about 3-5x more than a good steak in the U.S.

You aren't gonna last long as their publicity spokesman.

Theres a Grill restaurant, just outside Geneva (in Lausanne actually ) called Buffalo Bar & Grill or something.

They have a lovely terrase and country atmospehere. Steaks are probably pre cooked and they just microwave it before serving, but I guess Americans are used to Fast food.

Jokes apart, its a nice place for steak, interesting menu and reasonable prices.

Why do you want to eat American food when you're in Europe, with the fabulous Swiss, French, Italian, Greek, British (yeah), Spanish food (and I forget some more...) ?

That's true, but at the moment I would give a kidney to have tex-mex food like fajitas, or melt-in-your mouth ribs, or Jewish deli...Geez I'm making myself cry...

Try some Hoosier cooking sometime and all will become clear.

You actually have a Buffalo Grill just over the border at Collonges-sous-Salève.

I'm right with you on the Jewish deli (could really really go for a nice pastrami with mustard on rye) BUT so far as Tex-Mex and ribs go... I could almost give a kidney for some that is cooked (and cleaned up after) by someone else .

Oh, and some more variety actually... only some things I know how to cook so far but also some (like tamales for example) is only "worthwhile" to make in large quantities, or so I've heard and there simply isn't storage for that here.

Careful, in my emotional state, I could consider that an invitation!

Also Peg, I know what you mean... I made really good ribs once, but it took the better part of a day!

You are the wrong side of Switzerland

This chain is around Zurich, St. Gallen and Graubunden.

Stars and Stripes American Bar and Restaurant

Tres Amigos Mexican Bar and Restaurant

Steakhouse & Bar Argentina

Mm, maybe so. I imagine the local cuisine here could be pretty unappealing for, say, a vegetarian who didn't like potatoes. Man shall not live by fondue alone...

It also occurs to me that "American places to eat" might be a code phrase for "where am I likely to find some other Americans to talk to?" Not an unreasonable way to start building a social network.

If you were single.....

Thanks, I was going to mention it.

You've got also the Road Runner with an excellent burger.

Now I'm hungry, I think I'll go there soon.....

steaming pastrami on rye

tex-mex.... would the Mexicana in Lausanne do the trick ?

I'm not sure... I went to a 'Mexican' restaurant in Lausanne once and the fajitas were so tasteless and they gave only enough fixings to make one... for over 30 francs! But I think it was one near Payot. Where's Mexicana?

mexican food here is just strange. sweetly spiced and weird, not at all mexican. there is a columbian bakery just near us that has delicious empanadas, tamales and sweet things. also, there is a new chilean joint on rue de la borde though i haven't tried it yet.

peg a., i make tamales once, maybe twice a year (christmas and my son's birthday) and you are right, only good if you are making alot- i'll let you know in advance and you are welcome to come join in on the yumminess.

i'm pretty happy with what we have here in lausanne (especially since i found holy cow with some decent burgers and fries) but what i wouldn't give for a supper of chicken and biscuits. that is truly americana food and down home goodness...
