Geneva isolated again by SBB

A single broken down train at Chambesy has isolated Geneva yet again. Nothing is moving in or out of Geneva direction Lausanne during the morning rush hour. The A1 is also clogged from an accident on the A1.

SBB travel info:

Train services at Genève station are interrupted.
This is due to an event outside of our control.
The restriction lasts at least until 10:00.

An event outside our control often means a suicide. And with only a one line Geneva - Lausanne it, again, isolates Geneva. Takes about four hours to clear.

It seems contradictory since it says ‘Problem with overhead line’ and then ‘Problem outside our control’. What exactly constitutes a problem inside their control?

In any case I’m back on a train after 30 mins waiting on a frigid platform.

Hallelujah

Seems like two problems today. If it was only the overhead lines you would likely have been rerouted via the Jura.

And even with the problem, apparently, near Geneva all IC trains are stopped at Lausanne. Even the regional trains are held there even though Lausanne Nyon has no issues. These guys are simply incompetent.

The SBB app shows trains leaving Geneva from 1059. It will take another few hours to sort out the out-of-place trains. Overhead line problem also appears to be fixed.

Just noticed that as of 15 Dec the CFF have discontinued the IC15 which went from Geneva airport via the Jura to Zurich.

Now only one direct (no changes) GVA ZRH an hour. 1 connecting service via Renens with a 4 minute connection from tracks 5 to 1. A jock might make that but us old fogies, not bloody likely.

That has gone down like a lead balloon in these parts.
