It's attitudes like this that lead everyone to hate everyone who is in Zurich. It's really not superior.
Mark - are you willing to move within the region? There's a big Lausanne crew doing stuff, you might get some insight from them too.

Where do I start the night? I arrived on Saturday and could not find a "Bar Area" After research I have found that the bars are all spread out which makes it more difficult for a newbie..

Try Charley O'Neill's Irish Pub or Mulligan's Pub on Thursday nights.

I reckon the Alhambar, Qu'importe and Le Calamar should rock your boat for drinks. Note that for locals it's rather a foreign notion to "meet people" in bars. Expats tend to do that, but then they congregate among themselves with all the implied downsides - if you're into that, then I think say the Pickwicks and Lady Godivas would be more down your alley.

If you're adventureous as you say and you're looking for Goth/Metal/Punk style atmosphere and people, you could go to the Citadelle Pub:

There's a rather large disco place over the border in France called the Macumba (many different styles of music in multiple rooms):
Probably the biggest night club (RnB, House etc) is the Java club in the basement of the Hilton:
And there's quite a lot of English style pubs too such as the Mr Pickwick which does decent pub food:
Look out for the numerous "Brasseurs" (breweries) too which make their own beer and can serve them in 3, 5 or 10 ten liter tubes, there's one in Molard, one across the Cornavin train station, and so on:
If you're looking for something even more precise style wise, maybe I can dig up more addresses (forgot the names of some of the Latino clubs for example).
I know what you mean, but it is though. I like Geneva. But it's a small town.

It is very good, I have to admit. Its a bit rough but apart from that you will have a fantastic time.
Here's a list of the best places imo:
Pre-party bars: l'Aiglon (Nice crowd & you can get info on what nights are going on in town) Scandale (Nice spacious pre-party location) Les Brasseurs (Nice brewery bar with lot's of foreigners & expat's)
Underground Clubs: l'Usine (Some nights are really great) Weetamix (Very nice club, but unfrequent parties) Some underground parties (You can get info in l'aiglon)
Commercial Clubs: Palais Mascotte (I like the place, it's different & lot's of foreigners too) le SIP Bypass Platinum
