George Foreman grills> any feedback?

Hi!

Anyone ever tried those "george foreman" grills?

Are they as good as it seems?

Do you have decent cooking with them, as I read some negative comments like meat taste like rubber with some GeorgeForeman 1st generations grills...

Otherwise any "local alternative"? Like "breville"?

I had a Foreman grill for several years and loved it, ALBEIT I rarely used it for cooking meat. It was used mostly for panini-type sandwiches. Once in a while I'd make kafta, or lamb patties on it, and the food came out tasting wonderful, but I found it gets rather dirty when cooking meat and it's not the easiest thing to clean. I'd also use it to grill fruits (peaches, pineapples) for desserts. Frozen chicken fingers were also a staple on the Foreman grill...

Eventually I replaced it with the Calphalon Countertop Grill which has a removable plate for easier cleaning and an adjustable top so that you're not necessarily squishing whatever you're cooking.

Hi!

I have one (in fact, I got 2 as house-warming gifts a few years ago, but gave one away) and I'm not too impressed with it. It's fine and won't burn your food (unless you leave it on for a really long time!!) but I prefer a griddle pan. I have a Le Creusset pan which, if you don't put oil on the food, is just as healthy, but will give you the good looking, yummy tasting, char-grilled effect on meat and veg. I don't think the George Foreman can produce that anywhere near the same.

G

I'm on my second GF drill. Fantastic.

Used it for, meat, fish, poultry, veg. Never had a problem , got nice looking "char grilled" finish to the food and imo better than some other...types.Def worth a punt.

I had one a few years ago - it did make the meat taste a little different. To be honest I loved it, used it sooooooo much

You've made me think about buying a new one.

I think it depends if you want one for health purposes, ie, the reduced fat route, or to supplement your cooking options. I bought one for my husband when he didn't have any cooking facilities that was the standard griddle one side and then a flat plate on the other half, which was excellent for frying bacon, eggs, tomatoes etc.

He found it incredibly useful and used it all the time to cook all manner of things, although I would agree with StevieR that it is a bit fiddly to clean.

They are great and even better when you know the easy way to clean. Get a few paper towels damp after you take your food out and lay them flat, close the lid. When you're done eating just wipe. (unplug it while the paper towels are in it). Once I did that it was super easy.

Make sure you buy one

Thanks!

The latest models like Foreman G5 has 5 removable "grillplates"!

I read reviews saying its now much better to clean them!

I will have a look in shops for one

Thanks for the feedbacks

It doesn't do anything a griddle pan can't do at a tenth of the cost.

They were a staple when I was at school and no one had a barbeque. I absolutely love them.

That being said, they are mostly overpriced, so whatever is the same style and size for a cheaper price is just as good.

Does anyone know if you can buy these in Switzerland? - Or is the solution just to order it from UK or US and take the risk of getting stung CHF xx in administration fee from Swiss customs?

Just get a Solis grill or other local brand?

I make paninis, grill fish & vegetables perfectly fine with one.

IMHO

Don't bother, Every time I have had meat from one of these abominations it has been a waste of meat.

OTOH, as a previous poster mentions, it is properly designed for making/toasting paninis.

Just checked. A small Solis one is CHF 189 from their online shop. You can pick up a similar sized Foreman one for around GBP 40 in the UK... Seems like a no brainer even though it is not "Swiss Quality"

Even the cheapest non-brand ones in Fust was around CHF 100 when my wife checked today.

So, did the OP get one? And, did it live up to his expectations?

It rather makes the thread complete
