German Apple keyboard

This may seem like the strangest question. But i have just purchased a new Apple laptop and cannot figure out how to get the @symbol!!

It is in the middle of the keyboard, which is also shared with the letter G but no combinations are working, including all the shift, control, command keys.

Please help!! It cant be that hard.......

Do you have an "option" (alt) key? It's what works on my keyboard

Unfortunately i tried that and it doesnt work .-(

If it's German from Germany, then most probably alt+q - German from Switzerland is alt+g

'Alt' doesnt work....i bought it in Zurich.

Although you have a physical German keyboard.... have you set the computer to English keyboard? If so, it's shift 2

are you pressing it wrong? apple products just work

what layout are you using? swiss, german, gb, french?

I have an acer computer at work and it is ctrl-alt-2 but i didnt think it would be possible to change the keyboard...i think i would prefer to leave it as is.

No im not pressing it wrong...my husband tried as well, and we cant find any info on the internet. We have tried every combination.

It is a swiss layout, as i bought it here in Switzerland.

Its the alt key ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE of the space bar.

Try that ;-)

I dont have my computer with my right now....i think i tried that. But i will try again. Thanks!

What is your language setting? If you are on Swissgerman it is alt-g , if you on a German setting alt-l, (that is a small ell, by the way)

"Apple"+G should work. At least, it does on my girlfriend's Macbook.

apple-L it is on mine...

I hate German keyboards. Not so bad just getting used to the Y and Z being swapped, it's them other characters.

If my keyboard ever goes belly-up, I'm ordering one from the UK.

Edit: Ck this out.... http://goingtolalaland.files.wordpre...8/img_1122.jpg

Then you have a German keyboard - I think the OP has a Swiss-German layout.

No worries, here you go @ Just copy and paste whereever you need it, till the time you find solution

There are two "alt" keys on a mac keyboard. For a Swiss keyboard the the "@" sign is obtained by pressing "alt" and "G" at the same time assuming you've set the input source as a swiss keyboard.

However, there's a catch. If you're running another system other than Mac OS, native or virtualised, you may find that the left "alt" key will no longer work in conjunction with the "G" to produce the "@" symbol. You need to use the "alt" key on the right side of the keyboard for this to work.

Well none of the above options worked. I dont have an Apple symbol to use and when i use alt and g, i get this symbol ©.

Go to System preferences, select keyboard and tick show keyboard & character viewers in menu bar.

you can then click input sources and also select an english keyboard.

After this a flag will appear by the battery symbol allowing you to switch keyboards and also an option saying show keyboard viewer, when this is open pressing one of the modifier keys will show you the symbol for each key under the modifier...
