[German] Christmas greetings/Christmas phrases in Swiss German

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum. I have a Swiss partner who speaks perfect English but some of his family only speak Swiss.

Anyways, I'm writing out Christmas cards and it occurred to me that it would be nice to learn some Christmas-related phrases in Swiss German.

To start with - "Merry Christmas", of course. But if anyone can suggest any other nice festive words or phrases that would be fun too!

(I could just use standard German as I understand that Swiss is not a written language. But then I might as well just put it in English.)

Danke,

Roberta

Frohe Weihnachten (Merry Christmas)

Fröhliche Festtage (Happy Holidays)

Alles Gute für das Neue Jahr (all the best for the New Year)

is that a start?

Alternatively, you could go to a stationer's and look at the greetings in the cards there.

Not sure how many German cards there would be in Brighton.

Frohe Weihnachten - Fröhliche Weihnachten - Ein gesegnetes Weihnachtsfest- all for Christmas

Ein gutes neues Jahr- Ein frohes neues Jahr - Viel Glück im neuen Jahr- all for New Year's and if you want to combine Christmas and New Year's wishes ad an "und" in the middle

oops! not very observant, sorry.

Thanks guys, those are great : )

Yeah, I still live in England (unfortunately...) but I spent a few weeks in Switzerland staying with my partner at his family's house this summer. I really didn't learn much Swiss and I c ou ldn't even communicate with his grandmother apart from a mumbled "danke" and " grüezi" here and there!

In Swiss German dialect it rather would be

> Schöni Wienachte

> Netti Feschttaag

> Schöni Wienachte und ä Guäts Neus Jaar

> Händ schöni Wienachte und än guäte Rutsch is Neue Jaar

> Ganz schöni Wienachte und an guäte Rutsch is Neue Jaar wünscht eui allne ........
