After years without, have finally decided to invest to one and found few models that would not break the bank. Issue is however the installation as have no idea how much pluming and electricity work would be required.
I think there is s small change that in the past some previous tenant has had a dishwasher and also washing machine as some parts in the bottom of kitchen cabinets look like they were placed to cover-up some possible holes but since those parts seem to be glued in, have no way of knowing that without breaking those wooden parts to pieces.
Also went to a fust store but it was completely useless as my German is too limited to ask detailed questions about installation and checkup costs and process and personnel did not speak any other language aside from Swiss German (yes in Zurich city center).
Of course could just buy one with installation and see how much the bill will be but would rather not end up with dishwasher that cannot be installed nor end up paying more for the installation than for the machine itself.
Any experiences highly welcome.
You want to talk to the landlord, he should know what is available in his building, and you can also agree with him/her that whatever change you make, you don't have to restore to original in the end.
If all is there and simply can be restored than you could take this info to the store (perhaps even with photo's) and ask them for a quote.
Water and sewer should be in the neighbourhood since it is the cabinet and you are seeing extra parts. So the big remaining question is, is there electricity close-by that can handle a dishwasher? If yes, lucky you, if not and the cabinet is on the other side of the house that can be costly (unless the landlord wants to pay along since he also benefits)
Usually dishwashers have a single cold water feed in, a drain and plug electrically into a standard socket.
If all that is available, you're good to go.
If you need some help, I think you must start by showing us where you want to put it. A photo of both sides of the sink and one from under the sink, would be a good start.
Thanks, after some digging I am now 99% sure previous tenant has had dishwasher as there is clearly place where to connect water below the sink. Also there has to be power socket somewhere as just realized my fridge is connected there as well.
Now the new challenge is / still pricing of installation and now also the machine itself. Measured and there is a place only for standard 55cm device which means there are no dishwashers below 1000chf minimum plus the installation. Why Switzerland has 10cm less space and double priced dishwashers than rest of Europe, beyond my understanding.
One major reason is to protect domestic suppliers. It stops the easy import of, say, German kitchens and equipment.
Get one from Germany and install it yourself. It's not difficult.
I got my "slimline" 45cm dishwasher for 200 or so from the RheinCentre in Weil am Rhein and took it home in the car.Nowadays one could take it home on the tram :-)
If the 1.000,- is a problem (or you find a dishwasher simply not worth such) you could also consider 2nd handed.

German models dont fit, there is only space but 55cm x 76cm so even 45cm german models dont fit as those are too high.
What a fabulous idea it must have been when this size difference was decided
Aside, if you do installation yourself, insurance does not cover any possible damages. (thats also one of the best ideas from who ever decided that)
This seems like best option, while 450 for a used dishwasher is also extremely high price not knowing history of that machine and when you can get a new, decently good and bigger one behind the border with 400eur

Not sure if its myth but have heard it multiple times that in case of water damage, house insurance only covers it if installation was done by authorized instance. Would be great if this is not true but have heard it so many times in here that considered that as a fact.
There is a difference between doing all piping yourself and connection a dishwasher.
Also there is a difference between doing a proper job when doing something yourself, and doing a rubbish job which caused leakage.
Heres my experience. I ran out of dishwasher powder. Thought I could use hand dishwashing liquid as a replacement. I learnt the hardway. A flooded machine and a kitchen full of foam. Had to get the people from V Zug to repair it. Of course I said nothing about the dishwashing liquid . Under garantie!
You did well there getting the people for V Zug to do a warranty repair on a Bosch dishwasher
