Getting B Permit before having an address

Hi,

I am relocating from London to Zurich in October and was wondering whether it is possible to apply for B-permit before having a rental contract. Indeed, I will first rent via AirBNB and won't therefore have a real address for some time.

What I have though is EU passports (French and UK) and a work contract. So can I go to the Migration Office of the Canton of Zurich just with these two documents? Also, can I go and see them without my wife with just my wife passport and wedding certificate?

Thanks for your help.

PS: I have checked other threads before submitting this one and could not find anything fitting my needs.

You can get the residence permit without having a permanent address. when we moved we gave the temporary address and got the residence permit. if the gemeinde is different, then when you have a permanent address you will have to register at the new gemiende again. if its the same, you will just need to give a change of address.

i dont know if you can get the residence permit of you wife without her being present. I am non-EU and we had to do bio-metrics and also take a photograph at the Kantonal immigration office. since you are EU, i have no idea.

That's great, thanks a lot.

Would you know if I can also do the work permit in the same conditions?

You need to give the address of where your living, even a hotel is fine, nothing permanent required. The OP is entitled to a permit, however will have to pay a fee every time he moves house.

Your residence permit is your work permit, assuming you have a job contract. If you don't have a job contract, you will get a job seeker's L-permit and then after you go back with your contract they will update it.

AFAIK your wife needs to appear in person at some point, not just you with her passport.

Perfect, thank you all for that.

Just to make sure, do you need a proof of address or just telling them where you live? I guess giving your work address would not work, would it?

Guillaume.

I have never ever been asked for any proof, unless work is at a residential address it won't be accepted.

Hi,

I was in your same situation exactly a year ago. I found a job and then moved to Switzerland 2 weeks prior to starting my job start (I have a French passport). I rented a room on Airbnb as well.

However, at the gemeinde they initially refused to register me if my Airbnb reservation was for less than a month. They flat out told me that it does not interest them to register anyone if they will be there for less than a month (despite me explaining this was just a temporary place and that in order to find a permanent one, I needed to start my B-permit application.....). So in the end, I rented on Airbnb for one full month (which is not a cheap option), came back and they, then, were ok to proceed with my registration. I had to show them the Airbnb reservation confirmation and also added a letter from the owner of the apartment stating I was renting the place for one month through Airbnb. I did have to show a document, they asked for it.

This was in the canton of Luzern.

Hope this helps.
