Getting the New York Times delivered to CH on a daily basis

Does anyone know how to get the NYT delivered in Zurich same day it's published?? Or even just the Sunday Times on the Sunday? On the New York Times website it says it will deliver 5-7 days after publishing date...

thanks for any suggestions!!

Cheers,

James.

Given the time difference, and flight duration, I doubt it. Do they have an on line version ?

Your best bet is an online paid subscription, as I understand it, it's the exact online copy of the paper.

I think that the issue is a lack of a physical printer producing the paper in Europe, and given the size of the Sunday sections, cost of sending it.

Most of the Sunday paper is actually printed on Wednesday or Thursday, except for time sensitive stuff.

One of the kiosks in Zurich HB has a print-on-demand service. Dunno if the New York Times would be one of the papers they'd have or not... might be worth checking though.

there is a city wide custom newspaper system operating through Swisspost at least on the distribution side of thing(a way to find new business in a slagging mail market).

I think you can get some tid bits fron NYT but if one wants a hard copy of an actual NYT can't answer there.

Best bet would be to read IHT which is the closest (I realize the word is a bit much) one can to the NYT this side of the atlantic.

Yup, pretty sure that the NYT is not printed in Europe, and not home-delivered outside the US.

Perhaps subscribe to the "The Global Edition of The NYT" instead?

aka The International Herald Tribune

The Sunday Times is available all over the shop(s) in ZH of a Sunday morning...

there is an App for that. NYT IPad edition. have not tried it myself but hear it is pretty good.

For the iPad it's called NY Times Editor's Choice, it's very limited on its contents. Right this moment there are only 11 (short) articles available.

This might be an option.

Tages Anzeiger just announced today that every Monday they will include a section from the NYT in English Otherwise just get the IHT...it's pretty much the same content minus the local things.

I don't get it. Take your notebook and go to www.nyt.com

Free.

Who needs the pile of paper?

Another option, get a kindle, and subscribe to it that way. Or you can install the kindle software on your PC for free and subscribe without buying th kindle hardware

Currently free, will soon put up a paywall. Given how much I enjoy it I will happily pay, probably substantially less than for the paper edition, and less paper to recycle

Agreed with the advice on getting it on the kindle. It will be cheaper, less lead time, more convenient and you do not have to fold the newspaper into perfect stacks and wrap with recycleable string for paper-pick-up-day.

Even if you have an arrangement to have it on a direct NYC-ZRH flight the same day, it will land here the day after. And to have it delivered right on that "day after" will need a courier arrangement. All this means exorbitant costs, and getting the paper at least one if not two days after it is published. You might rather check the "Herald Tribune", a volume-reduced version of the NYT published in Paris and on the market all over Europe the same day. A lot of contents of the IHT (International Herald Tribune) is parts of the NYT, another big part however is done by US-American journalists sitting in Paris. The Online-issues of the New York Times, the Dallas Morning News and the Los Angeles Times are "the mothers of all online newspapers" !

True, it is if you get down from Bahnhofstrasse and cross the first hall the first kiosk on the left. They are selling "newspapers" which are printed locally on the basis of print-issues of newspapers accross the globe. At shockingly high prices of course

Sorry, but he does NOT mean the "real" Sunday Times ! but the Sunday issue to the New York Times

There is now a limited insert of the NYT by Tages-Anzeiger
