GiFi going

GiFi stores are to disappear in Switzerland, taken over by Maxi Bazar, reveal the Tribune de Genève and 24 heures. The managers of the thirty or so stores have been informed that the change of brand will take place at the beginning of January.

The GiFi group, which is in financial difficulty and has already been restructured in France, is no longer supplying Swiss stores, which are selling off their stocks. Uncertainty reigns for the employees, who have not received any guarantee of employment for next year. No closures are planned, but the stores could switch to the Stokomani brand, which is already used in Valais.

I suspect the one near us will close because according to Maxi’s website there’s already a Maxi literally just across the road in the old shopping centre when Coop used to be in Matran. Don’t remember one being in there so that Maxi might be new.
