Glass coasters - what to do with hundreds of them?

My wife had a great idea of doing something artistic.. I sourced and ordered them, they have been in the cave since..

Standard drinks coaster size, 50mm square? clear glass, rounded edges. I have approx 500.

Part of me says dechete.. part says they might be useful for something.. would anybody buy them.. give them away?

Ideas ?

Tell the wife to do her artistic thing as planned?

I assume you already tried the "Jesus Christ I bought you 500 ####ing coasters because you wanted them and now they're taking up space and I have to get rid of them? Are you crazy? "option? That would be my first and no doubt wildly unsuccessful option.

Failing that, I would take a sample to some local restaurants and maybe get a few bucks for the lot. Unless they were super cheap to begin with, then I'd take a few trips to the local recycling center.

Oh believe me i tried

I now count it as a dead loss. I don't want to resurrect the idea, it would probably involve buying more material.

Just a few more posts and you can advertise them here on EF.

Stick 5 together in an open cube to make tea-light holders?

Decorate with staining or etching.

Summer's coming - seen loads of outdoor candles in gardens and on balconies.

You then shift 5 coasters in one product. Sell at some expat fair or the school summer fete or whatever's on in the area. Plus people tend to buy 2, 3 or 4 in a go so that would get rid of up to 20 of the coasters in one sale.

OP, you've found a taker!! Give them away.

Drill a hole into them, hang them on the trees. Keeps the birds away, looks pretty in sunshine.

May attract the magpies though

Ahhhh, just realized: Put them outside into the sunlight (forget the hole and the hangig in trees), let the magpies pick them up.

Film a remake of "birds".

1. Source 500 mouse traps.

2. Arrange

3. ???

5. Art

I think your size is off. No way to get a glass on something 5cm x 5cm.

A photo or two might be useful.

I an thinking that you could (depending on the size) give them to a junior school for an Art project. Using 5 of them you could glue them together (crazy glue) to make a type of "cup".

Put a small tea candle (round with metal bottom) in it to give light on a table. Each kid could make two for his/her project (so each kid needs 10 coasters) so only 50 kids "needed".

EDIT: Sorry, I glanced over Sandgrounder's suggestion and missed the important part about the tea-light holders. So my suggestion is similar but with a single off-load of the stock to a school.

Better is to charge 60,- pp to have people come over to decorate them theirselves during a "creative workshop in a cosy domestic environment" just buy some paint and glue and a big box of marbles or some other silly stuff to glue on them at the local toy-store, provide an Apero with wine, and people will pay you to take them out of your home. If you are quickly you can make it eastern themed.

Ps, if your wife has more brilliant creative impulses I still have a stock of around a 1.000 (milk)glass globes for lamps from the 70's/80's in the storage....

Give them to a school TG (arts and crafts) teacher. My kids have brought home some painted glass projects in the past. If you don't know one, I do. I'll pay for shipping if interested.

I like the ones covered with a map or an old atlas page. The beer caps are funny, you could chip in with some more material I am sure

Otherwise - there are millions of way kids could decorate them with enamel and your wife could have it fired at one of the local pottery workshops. And then there are markers for staining glass...mosaics to put together, a glass sculpture if you glue them with cement, garden hipster art, etc.

Do you have any pics? I might be interested in half a dozen at the right price; after all, you never have enough coasters.

Trouble is, it's the shipping that's going to spoil this. (What do they weigh?). If only you could somehow get them to China...

Well somebody has expressed an interest in them so lets see if they want to follow up first..

A few things to be clear.

I don't care to make money on them. I'll happily give them away (although a bottle of wine would be nice). I've accepted the kick the nutz i got from shipping and import duties!

They are probably too expensive to post, two boxes each @ 11kg . Each contains 9 smaller boxes (pictured), each of those has 10-12? (approx??)

I think i over estimated the amount, from what I see it's more like 200.

The missus does tons of crafty stuff but she's moved on from this idea.

The size was indeed wrong, 10x10 is correct.

Here's a few pics

Take a few every time you go for a walk near a pond or lake. I'll bet they make fantastic skipping stones.

They're screaming out for some nail polish art. https://www.pinterest.ch/pin/470415123557084273/

I'd love some for my playgroup.

They look nice. If your deal falls through, I'll take 10 at 2 francs each. Postage shouldn't be more than a few francs if it's 100-200 grams. I can pay via PayPal or a crypto of your choice.
