Hi everyone, I'm a student in Lausanne and I'm about to graduate business school in about 3 weeks. My girlfriend was here at the beginning of last year and thought it would be a good idea to buy me some goldfish to keep me company. Unfortunately she didn't think about what I was going to do with them once I left.
To be honest I dont know what to do with them and I'm hoping someone out there would like to adopt my goldfish. There's only 2 of them and they come with the tank, net, filter, and some decorations. If anyone does want the fish please let me know as I really dont have the heart to throw them in the lake or anything. If anyone has any ideas please dont hesitate to share.
I guess any comment about animals as presents will not actually help here, nonetheless...
Anyways, please do NOT throw them in the lake. They will either die instantly because of the change of water or if they survive they will endanger the local fauna. Chances are that they actually will survive, seen that Goldfish are predators and feed on other small animals. Have a look at http://forum.aquascapeinc.com/archiv...hp?t-9124.html
It's a shame I have not seen your post earlier as I will be moving from Lausanne on Thursday, but if you really can't find another solution I would offer to adopt them. We have a pond with a couple of Goldfish in our garden. Don't worry though, as yours are not accustomed to these temperatures I would keep them indoors until summer.
While perusing the notice boards at Fressnapf the other day, I found a leaflet from the Verein Aquarium Zürich, who seem to run a 'Fisch Tierheim' helping to find new homes for fish.
Now, I know nothing at all about this group - just saw the leaflet. And if course, they are in Zürich, not Lausanne. But you might give them a call anyway if you haven't yet found a solution. If they can't help, perhaps they might know of someone who could.
Here in Basel we have a big park called Grun 80! there is a few different ponds there! full of goldfish!! find a similar park near you just drop em in :P
OR a helpful idea....give them to someone above who said they would take them or find a neighbour with kids who Im sure would love a hassle free pet!!
That's a BAD idea. Goldfish should never released in the wild because they badly mess with local ecosystems. They turn into pests.
And even if you find a public pond with goldfish in it already (in a park for example) it is a bad idea to drop yours in it, because yours may be carrying infectious diseases (ichtio is fairly common in aquarium fish, and often is latent) that would spread and eventually kill all the other goldies (and other fish) in the pond.
Besides I think in Switzerland you can be fined if you're caught releasing your goldfish in a pond. They have introduced some new strict rules about pets a few months ago, some of which specific for goldies (even dropping a "dead" goldie in the toilet is now forbidden).
