Hi All, I want to ask (with some :), I have a jaccket that I am quite fond of. It has kept itself for many years. One button has fallen off and another is broken. I would like to replace all the buttons.
What stores in zurich city would have a good selection to choose from?
I get my haberdashery things in the Basel city branch, but I think most of them will stock buttons as I’ve seen stuff in branches at Lugano, Bern and Schaffhausen when I’ve visited.
As others have said, that is a standard button, you can likely find it in any store selling buttons or sewing ‘Mercerie’. Manor (at least those by me in Pfäffikon SZ and Rapperswil) have a small but decent selection. Coop City has a small-ish selection of standard buttons as well. Bernina shops, as mentioned already, are also a good source.
Galauxs also has sewing notions, including buttons. Their search function is frustrating, but if you have patience you can likely find your button.
Any sewing shop should have a selection of buttons. There aren’t many big sewing stores anymore, but there are still a few smaller shops around. Google ‘Nähladen’ or ‘Nähzubehor’ or ‘Mercerie’ or similar to find something in your area.
But as above, the button you pictured is quite standard and should be easy to find. Good luck!
ETA:
Worst case - go to a local tailor or dry cleaner offering alterations. Be aware that you’ll likely pay well over the odds for this option, though. I’d only consider this as a last resort - which since the button is standard you likely won’t need.
A big ‘thank you’ to everyone. There are at least two clothing repair/dry cleaning shops near me, along with a tailor shop that caters to people with uncommon size of clothing. I’m sure one of them will fix the buttons. I have not talked to them yet. Anticipating the answer ‘if you bring the buttons …’, i started searching where I could get the buttons …
The pic was to indicate what I was looking for. The original buttons on the jacket are ‘Labeled’ with a name and the jacket has no other visible logo/whatever on it.
It was easier for me to grab a photo from google and post it … ).
I hope you find what you need. If something is still in good condition and you like wearing it then it’s worth doing things like changing the buttons. Back in the 80s I had a cream woven collarless jacket that was getting a bit tired, so I replaced the buttons, added a trim round the edge and voila, I had a new jacket. I’d not long moved to London from Scotland and had become independent with rent, bills etc., so not a lot of money to splash on clothing. It started my habit of mending and I love pimping things up
