I guess it depends what you need. I’m using Alexa via Sonos Beam to control Philips Hue lights and play music via spotify or from Apple devices via Airplay... in Switzerland
Of course, this has worked forever. I'm an Apple convert and been using HomePods and iPads for home control - also works in Switzerland.
The thing is though: the home hub is the first voice product that's officially available here. Everything else just "worked" but sometimes lacked local content (pointing at Amazon here). The HomePods don't work with Netflix etc. for TV control - just as another example.
Perhaps now that Google has finally deployed an approved product, Apple will follow too. Amazon: very unlikely.
I've been managing quite happily with Amazon Wife for the last several years. It's generally pretty good, if a little buggy at times, but it usually does what I want it to.
After having moved my Amazon account to Switzerland (used to be UK), most of the neat stuff stopped working for me. That was the main reason why I ended up going to HomeKit
Good to hear. I have been using both Google home and Echo for years but apart from Amazon Fire tv I have given up on Alexa. I just find Google assistant superior.
Another vote for the Google Assistant over Alexa. Google Assistant seems better able to understand normal speech and for some reason Alexa would never play spotify playlists, only songs and albums. We brought our google home mini with us last year from the US and were happy that it worked in Zurich. But I guess it is now "official". I wonder if there is some new functionality now we should be testing out?
Not to try to hijack this thread, but one can now pair two old (generation one) google home speakers together to create stereo (left and right) which is great news and a wonderful feature. look forward to a true wireless 5.1/7.2 experience with google home speakers.
For me, one reason only for 40 CHF, an Echo Dot is the best way to play BBC Radio 4 (or most other radio stations) in our kitchen without having to fiddle with touch screens.
