Google Play Music - now available in Switzerland

https://play.google.com

You can upload 20'000 songs to the Big G and play back anywhere.

You can access 1m+ songs for 9,95 per month.

Anyone done it yet?

I have 24'000 songs so have to organise myself somehow.....

It's been in Switzerland since 3 October, if I'm correct. I may be switching to this once the iOS app comes (it's coming later this month) because it's 3CHF/month cheaper than Spotify. It's also got a few other benefits, so, yes, I'm likely switching.

I saw it on my phone's Play Store and I spent some time with it last weekend.

I started an "Unlimited Music" subscription which I'm planning to cancel before the end of October (the first month is for free), mainly out of curiosity about how it will treat the songs I've downloaded.

When you pay for this, you can basically access every song and also download it on your mobile devices.

I guess the moment my free month is over it will somehow delete the songs from my device or make them unusable.

At the same time I started uploading my music library to it and bought a few albums I had missed. Thanks to Google I've spent within these first 5 days more money I've spent on music since 2010.

I think some of Google's services (e.g. Wallet) are not yet up to date with Google Play Music being available here.

I started a free trial subscription to "All Access Music" (it is about 10 francs/month) and now I cannot cancel it because in order to cancel it you have to find it in your "Active Subscriptions" section in Google Wallet, and it just does not appear there.

The second way to cancel it is through your phone's Play Music Store. There I see it is active, but when I click on cancel it says "unknown error" and it does not do it.

So I contacted the support via e-mail, and the guy promised me it is canceled and I will not be charged once the free trial month is over.

Let's see.

I cancelled one on my secondary account (I'm probably going to start one some day on my main Google Account). It came in my account on the "Subscriptions" tab, but if it isn't there, you can cancel it via a link in the receipt you get via email, however I stopped it using the normal way. Tomorrow I may post screenshots and a more detailed method on this thread (can't guarantee but I may be able too)

Interesting you could find it in your subscriptions. Are you on the Swiss store?

What's more, I see no "cancel" link in the initial e-mail.

Which of the links should do the trick?

I am on the Swiss store.

That's weird, your email doesn't seem to have the link.

I'll post screenshots tomorrow (I'm typing on my old Nexus 7 because my computer and new Nexus are off, and Internet browsing is horrible on this)

Please do so, and also tell us if you subscribed before or after I did (Oct 3, 2013 10:25:03 PM CEST) and if the subject of the email is the same (mine is "Your Google Play Order Receipt from Oct 3, 2013").

On the navigation sidebar, click on more, then on subscriptions. Then click on "Google Play Music All Access". Then you can cancel it there. This is what I am supposing is missing?

Exactly, it's missing:

And I'm led there via a link on the Play Store, where it shows my subscription but takes me to Google Wallet when I try to cancel it.

So for me it was kind of obvious that Google forgot to activate some option on Google Wallet that allows it to see Music subscriptions for Switzerland, given that the service is completely new here.

It was obvious until you said you can see your subscription.

There's something definitely wrong then - mine says "Cancelled on Oct 11, 2013".

I will think about it tomorrow and probably post something, but you probably might want to contact support again and talk to them about this.

I did contact support but the person (or machine called Tanner? it could actually be a machine) did not show the least interest in investigating the reason.

Which is a shame.

But he (or it) promised that the subscription has been canceled.

Which is what I was after anyway, though I would love to help them identify an error.

Next stop: check if I still have the service after November 3 and if my credit card has been charged.

i tried it for 2 hours and cancelled it.

i also get the error, but when i check google wallet, i see that it has been cancelled.

Mine got canceled without any issues at the end, as the guy from the support had promised.

I didn't receive any automatic e-mail saying it was canceled but I can't find the music I had added to my library any more.

It's only what I've uploaded and a few things I bought.

Interestingly, until last night (November 3) I could still see on my phone's Play app that I had the service and that next billing was on November 2 (yeah, the day before ), and still, it kept failing to cancel until it disappeared at some point during the night.

And now we finally got Books!

Was just going to post that - they must have turned that on about an hour ago. I just taught an android course and the play books section was nowhere to be seen. When I got home I suddenly noticed the books app in my app drawer. Now let's hope they'll also add magazines, movies and (dare I say?) Nexus devices to the Swiss play store!

Well, for books Switzerland was the odd one out.

As you can see, books is second only to apps in terms of country availability. It was strange that we got music first because it is available in way less countries.

Devices is a different story.

I am afraid they will take a long time to become available here if Google continues to make them available on a country by county basis.

Of course Google may (actually should) just go for paneuropean availability overnight.

Don't know why they can't do it while Microsoft doesn't seem to have a problem with selling devices all over Europe :-/

Don't know about the books, either - I'm guessing because we don't have the "Buchpreisbindung" in Switzerland, they didn't just want to sell the books at the same prices as in Germany and Austria.

In any case, the selection is very small compared to Amazon - I'm hoping that'll change soon

Well, Nexus devices are sold with almost no profit because the user will then buy from Google Play, and they make some money out of that, so I think until they get even videos and movies here, they won't start selling devices.

Edit: Just realised straight after posting that I revived an old topic - Sorry.

These last 2 days many countries got new things available on the Play Store, but not Switzerland.

E.g. Greece got Play Music. Finland, Sweden and other European countries got Play Movies.

Also various European countries got the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 7 WiFi on the Play Store.

Nothing for us.
