In other words those publishers who don’t pay Google enough. Loved this part:
“Google is part of the Coalition for Better Ads, a group which also includes News Corp, Facebook and Unilever, and is dedicated to “improving users’ experience” of online advertising.”
I’ve already improved my experience of online advertising - I have AdBlocker.
Now if anyone can tell me how to make those annoying autoplay videos autostopped instead I’d be very grateful.
They also tend to be turned up full volume just to make matters worse. If it is the blasting sound that bothers you, then keep mute on and only release it when you know you want to watch something and have put the volume down first.
Yeah, that too koblenz. Not sure I can turn the sound off. I’ve just found a couple of things in my internet options for animations and sound which may work, but otherwise I guess I’d have to turn my speakers off. It’s so annoying because not only is it full blast, but often the video playing isn’t even on my screen so I have to go hunting for it to shut the damn thing off.
If you do not have a universal mute button on your keyboard then you would have to mute sound in general from your desktop, the speakers that way can stay on and less faffing about. Release mute only when you are ready to start watching, then afterwards re-mute from desktop.
Many sites seem to think users are deaf and so have the volume on max by default. Many sites also seem to think we are interested in watching another of their video stories and so auto-play is also switched on by default. It is really annoying that they think this way.
Couldn’t agree more koblenz. Autoplay should not be default setting, if I want to watch a news video then I’ll decide to do so, not the news website. Frankly it puts me off watching stories I may be interested in because it’s so annoying. But the websites will swear blind “that’s what people want”.
