I'm looking for new GPS. I drive all over Europe.
If I were to buy a GPS in the UK (or France, or Germany) which provided 'safety camera' updates, would it include [cough, cough] all of Europe ?

I added them as a downloadable Point of Interest set, then set the TomTom to warn me when I approach a POI of this particular type.
eg navman includes swiss speed cameras in its database, but wont dispaly them on the map and wont warn you about them, I assume there is a hack to get them to work, but I've not looked into it yet.
Of course there are ways round it a simple hack in igo will disable the disable
If you get a wince based system I can give you igo with the hack to enable cameras where ever you are.
imho igo based systems give by far the best speed camera warnings of any system (I have tomtom, igo, garmin, navman, mypal and clarion system, christ I'm sad)
As far as I can tell it shows every camera in Switzerland, though I've noticed a few false positives.
In addition to speed camera locations they have a whole bunch of POI databases that you can download: ski stations, camp grounds, etc.
Works on TomTom & Garmin.
p.s. love the avatar 'lux'... the cramps are an all time fave...
have a look at maplin, they where selling a load off cheap recently
Or here at Migro's electronic, they where selling navman's with 2 years free map updates and TMC for 179chf at the weekend (an offer I couldn't refuse)
ah well in that case I can recommend the navman, it picked up the tmc signal straight away, screen is really good even in direct sunlight, updating the maps is a bit of a ballache as you have to delete the ones on there, then download the new ones (2gb+) and even with cablecoms top speed (20mb?) it still took a few hours, never seems to get above a couple of hundred k
as the camera database from navman includes swiss cameras I assume there is a way to bypass the security, just not had time to look into it.
The poi warner seems to already be installed, so all you need is the speedcam poi file, a quick google will show you where you can find it without paying navman for it
Oh and its wince based so dumping there software and using igo or tomtom is a piece of cake
Having said that, the speed cams is one thing, make sure you get a device with traffic warnings, that helps loads, especially if you intend to drive all over the show with it.
Traffic warnings only work out of the city as city traffic is considered the norm, so not reported
However, it is "completely illegal" to even "know where a speed trap is" in CH. If they think that you have speed trap locations in your GPS they can confiscate your device and charge you at least 400chf for an administrative fee.
I bought a car with Cruise Control and use it religiously. So far I have only gotten 3 fines in the past year and a half.
Yes, having the speed cams will help u get 140, down to 110 on the m-way, when the ping goes...
The problem with the ping is, when you decide to have music blasting, your talking, god forbid sms-ing, you will miss a ping or 2....ohoh, then the fines will still appear..
Its CH, dont speed! be warned, 'They will get you'...
And both times I got clocked, I was actually speeding by at least 10km/h. So I can't complain a whole lot.
