Grappling / BJJ in Switzerland

Just saw this on YouTube and it looked fun.

A remember a few people on here did BJJ and I was wondering where might be a good place to try it out/start out?

Personally I find that a little incongruous. After all if you enjoy dog humping another bloke and sticking your head between his legs, then presumably you should be blowing him kisses, not bitchslaps (and pretty pathetic ones too)

Stay on your feet and slug it out, thats more fun!

they don't call it blow job ju-jitsu for no reason

I'm trying to think about a team near where you are but can not come up with any. I'll ask today and reply later.

BJJ is the bomb. Arte Suave FTW!

Kindas was interested in the Grappling, but I thought it was along these lines:

BJJ---confused about that one

time to train...

2 mins 25 secs wow!

I think Savate might be more your style...

bloke? i intend practising with two well-oiled super-models!

I went along to Agusto Frotas classes a few times and enjoyed it. Unfortunately it was out of my price range.

He teaches in English and his junior teachers speak good enough english as well if that is a concern.

Few points I'd say:

Excellent fitness

High learning curve

Get used to being choked out and dominated if you've never done anything like it

the BJJ class is better to try than pure grappling.

Gi over no Gi

the usual swiss lack of friendliness can be a bit odd - when you are fighting in such close proximity I think a good sense of humour is a must...

It is big fun and a great workout! But be prepared for bruises, you'll have plenty. Good luck in finding a decent school, I haven't heard much about BJJ and submission wrestling here.

it actually seems that zurich or basel are your closest bets in CH.

the other option is trying germany.

2:25 is a flying armbar.

the thing about bjj is that it is so sweaty and you have your head and grips in places you don't necessarily wanna have them . but it is fun. i used to train muay thai in matt serras gym in new york and i have an ex who teaches there so these were serious bjj guys and great teachers and i liked going to the bjj class once in a while. the nice thing about it is that everyone seems to have a good attitude about beginners and technique teaching although again, that was in ny and not here in c.h.

i can say i had a far amount of serious bjj guys in my yoga class because they knew that by elongating their limbs and upping their flexibility their reach and ability to get out of holds was greatly improved.

fun stuff but be ready to be beaten up a bit!

i like pain and bruises, so no problem on that front.

me too, especially if they are well earned !

in that case go for it!

FYI: You can find BJJ a few days a week at CrossFit Zurich, near Sihl City.

Hey Phil, funny you should ask as I was looking into it as well. As you might know I'm currently assessing which Muay Thai gym to join, but I'm also a fan of BJJ/MMA. The only gym I know in Zürich that offers both is Fightclub: http://www.fightclubzuerich.ch/

The offer what they call free fight (essentially MMA) with both grappling and striking in light gloves. I'm in love with MT but a combination of the two would really work for me, send me a text if you're interested in checking it out, as my friend isn't much into MMA. They got 2 free training sessions I heard and are the only serious gym for MMA fighters in Zürich afaik.

You might wanna check this thread out. Augusto Frota 's gym is probably the only decent BJJ gym in Switzerland.

Joe Rogan saying some interesting about BJJ and other martial arts. I never saw it like he puts it on video 1.
