The restaurant "Wein & Sein" is situated in the picturesque old town on
Münstergasse. It's small, with only one home-cooked menu, but it's really delicious and the chef Beat Blum is a great cook.
The wines to go with it are fantastic.
The price is around 90Fr., but well worth it.
There are also loads of bars in this area for after dinner drinks.
Might i just add the 'Zimmermania' in Brunngasse ( not far from where you were) been there last Friday, as if the food wasn't already very good, it certainly won many pioints with me for serving yummo french wines open!! We had a half of Saint Emillion and it is very recommendable by the way
I have been to Zimmermania. It is darn good.
Luce is still my favorite though!
Try the Azzurro near the Insel Spital. Excellent for fish and seafood. Fantastic fish soup.
my current favourites are
La Nina - Delicious Pizza + Pasta @ CHF10.80
Romigio Restaurant - Pizza yum yum
Wirtschaft zum Hähli - Simply wonderful
Will never Luce or Grissini ever again. Sadly the only thing special about these 2 restaurants are its prices but not the food.

Fondue season is just around the coirner, my favourite is Restaurant Harmonie on Hotelgässe.
La Nonna on Spiechergasse has excellent pizzas and pasta at really reasonable prices, and tRestaurant Aarbergerhof
www.aarbergerhof.ch has good variety on their menu, Indian, Greek, Turkish, Thai etc.... the food is excellent.
I also like Restaurant Zebra in Länggasse. They change their menu everyday so there aren't any menu cards as such, but the food is exceptionally good, lots of seasonal produce is used and they only use Bio products. Unlike a lot of places in Bern, the Zebra has really good prices as well.
Have to agree with the comment about Luce though. The last time I was there the service was appalling.
Thanks for posting all these suggestions. My husband and I were planning to take a day-trip to Bern sometime this month.
a nice venue for lazy afternoons or for day trippers ...
Restaurant RosenGarten, 5 mins from central Bern on Bus 10 (direction Ostermundigen)
Sits right above the old town & you get some nice views over the whole city. Menu is pretty good, average is 25chf for lunch with 1 drink.
Does anyone know if the "Tea Shop" is still there on Länggasse?
I went once & really enjoyed it - kept meaning to go back, but haven't managed it yet.
If I remember rightly, there were lovely English scones with jam & cream, and tiny sandwiches - just like tea at the Ritz, but cosier!!!(and cheaper!)
The Tea Shop is still there. They also have a breakfast buffet on Saturdays, very good.
ohhhh nice memories, thanks starbug, the 'Araber' we used to call it still exists then, I hung out there in the early 80's ....those were the days.........
Grin....... in a little more than a weeks time, I will actually be in Golders Green London,in the White Swan pub, bopping 'til I drop to 'that' music.
For sheer snob-value & cool "greenhouse" atmosphere, the "Schöngrün" out by the Paul Klee Zentrum can't be beaten!
The cooking is really creative and even a bit "molecular" (!), and for lovers of sweet things - and chocolate desserts - it's perfect!
The Zentrum is also really worth a visit.
