Niel supports Greenland
Hitler’s Greenland Obsession
After creating an economic mess with ill-advised tariffs, Hitler looked north in pursuit of resources and national security.
Niel supports Greenland
Seems strange & no doubt a sign of the times we live in, when the only “priority concerns” with the US President is should I threaten to invade ( the peace loving island of ) Greenland ? as well as carry out air strikes on Iran, not to mention having a swipe at Mark Carney for striking a trade deal with China with 100 per cent tariffs & imply to the ungrateful Canadians that you should have embraced his suggestions of becoming the 51st State of America !! ![]()
So how did Greenland go from “it’s imperative we must have it!” to “nothing more to see here” in a space of a week?
Someone gave him a globe.
Or somebody told him he cant drop bombs on Greenland, but can drop bombs on Iran.
All the rich people in the world met at this ugly Swiss Ski resort town and refrained from calling him a moron.
Indeed, last week was a weird moment in Davos.
Some people try to analyze what happened in there. The long time leader of the WEF was kicked out last year and a new manager came.
This is a very interesting speculation of the vibe in Davos. Was Davos 2026 some kind of persuasion attempt?
What we have seen at Davos over the last few days was an effort by the Trump administration to create new common knowledge in the world, an agreement that Trump was in charge, and that politics revolved around him. That effort has failed because of pushback from politicians, both Europeans who were furious at Trump, and Canada’s prime minister, Mark Carney who gave a quite extraordinary speech. However, the result is most certainly not a decisive victory for Europe, Canada, and the other forces allied with them. Instead, it is one significant moment in a longer story of struggle and contention.
An essay from Paul Krugman is more blunt:
Donald Trump and his team clearly went to Davos determined to demean and insult their hosts. It was, one might say, a novel approach to diplomacy: “You’re pathetic, your societies and economies are falling apart, now give us Greenland.”
And it worked about as well as you’d expect. Trump may have imagined that the Europeans would cower in the face of his wrath. Instead, they humiliated him. He dropped his latest tariff threats in return for a framework that gave the United States essentially nothing it didn’t already have — and left behind a Europe that is finally united in resistance to his bullying.
Krugman speculates about what is in Trump’s admin heads:
I’d say that Mr. Krugman went too far as armchair psychologist. But there’s something to support the “You’re pathetic, your societies and economies are falling apart, now give us Greenland.” speculation. Just listen to the idiotic joke of Musk about Greenland and Larry Fink educating “Europeans” and “pension funds” (starts at 4m00s). Listen to me poor idiots!!! After looking at the attitudes, it’s not hard to start thinking about those crazy ideas in heads across the Atlantic
This was working well a few short months ago. Well-funded far right political parties and groups were pushing the Trumpian narrative, Vance’s guest appearance in Berlin, Musk being piped in onto screens at far right rallies…
Then the Trump machine pushed a bit too far and it seems to have opened eyes in Europe. Farage’s Reform party has stalled in the polls and the other nutters around Europe have gone off the boil. I think they showed a bit too much ankle with the Greenland, VZ and ICE debacle, and can’t even offset it with any meaningful rise in living standards.
When you sit in the White House surrounded by worshippers, yes men, nodders and people too frightened to tell you the truth one loses touch with reality, not that that was a big leap for Trump.
It looks like sovereignity over the US bases will be a sticking point, the US has bases worldwide without sovereignity so the US should give up on this point.
I don’t think the issue is the Prez losing his mind.
The whole presidential admin and a large teams of crony capitalists were playing the card of “you pathetic European losers, give me Greenland”. It didn’t work. But, as the smart guys that wrote the essays said: Europe 1, USA 0. However, the match has not ended yet.
Neither do I, he chooses not to recognise the real world but instead tries to change the game to his reality which worked in the past but no longer.
Just look at the DHS/ICE debacle.
He once said he could get away with shooting someone on Fifth Avenue but the two apparent murders in MN are not going away any time soon.
One theory about the non-release of the Epstein files is they reveal more about Melania’s history and visa process.
Yes Trumps constant berating of Joe Biden ( Sleepy Joe ) in almost every speech including the Davos speech only backfires on him with he’s absurd assumptions and accusations when it comes to “Silly Old Men !!” in power speeches.
Trump is not the first one to want Greenland.
