Is it worth paying for gross negligence option in personal liability insurance? I've always added it to various insurances, but in this one I'm not sure what would be the advantage. What do you think?
The advantage is that if you happen to act grossly negligent, the insurer will not take recourse on you for the damage you caused.
Possible example: you are riding a scooter on the pavement (which afaik is still prohibted) and cause an old lady to fall down an break her hip. Since riding on pavement is prohibited, this will likely be considered to be grossly negligent and the insurance would try to recoup any money it had to pay out.
That’s more likely to be simple negligence. A better example of gross negligence would be: you are riding a scooter on the pavement, at an inappropriate speed whilst drunk and hit an old lady, causing her to fall down and break her hip. Witnesses reported taking avoiding action themselves immediately before the incident.
I do just for the simple fact of not arguing with an insurer whether its gross or not. The line is a fine one and good luck proving it.
Actually I miss-read the pricing, the option costs just a few CHF per year, there is no point in deliberating.
Thank you
