Hi guys,
I am a temporary student studying at ETH zurich greater than 3 months. I'm looking to get covered by a decent student health insurance package and came across Group Mutuel's Academic Care versus SwissCare's international student's plan ( https://www.ethz.ch/en/studies/inter...insurance.html ). Do any of you have opinions for one over the other and if so, why?
Cheers,
V
I'm also deciding between those two. Can't find much info on Academic Care though.
I find Groupe mutuel such an incredible administrative disaster that i can only advice you that if needed pay a little bit more and get another company.
1 - Signing up with them needed 2 attempts since they lost the papers.
2 - Adres change needed a visit to the office since after two times an acknowledgement on the phone turned out to not be registered.
3 - Getting the proper own risk registered took 4 months, and another 3 to get my to much paid money back.
4 - Telling them who is my doctor is after 2 visits to the office (they both times lost the papers) 3 phone call's and 2 times sending the forms by mail still not registered.
5. Several times i asked them to send me the bills so i can pay, they did but took several weeks to do so, and i ended up each time having to go the office to get rid of the fines.
6. Hard to find somebody (if even possible) on the phone who speaks English.
And i am only with them for two years, can't wait until the end of the year to leave them.
(they also are leading the ranks of most complaints at the consumers protection agency.)
Thank you so much! That's really helpful. I read that their service is not that great but the plan seems so attractive (no deductible option). I guess there's a reason why most people choose SwissCare.
Bear in mind though, that with SwissCare you’ll pay all medical bills and then have to claim them back off SwissCare. So if you need something expensive done it might not be the best choice for you.
We've been with them for five years and have not had any problems with them at all.
Doesn't change my opinion of them. We've been very happy with their services and so have several of our friends.
Swiss are doesn't get awfully good press either so it may be accase of choosing between the devil and the deep blue sea.
