Guitar Shop Suggestions

I'm looking for a shop that sells basic acoustic guitars that are built okay and are better than the ones I saw in Conrad where the bridge was lifting up on the display ones in the shop.

I found www.gitarrentotal.ch , but they are a little out of my price range apart from 1 guitar (in 3 different sizes). I'm looking to spend a couple of hundred francs. I would also like a half-sized one for my son who is 3 1/2 and loves playing them in the stores.

Any suggestions for shops, guitar brands?

If you buy a cheap guitar in Switzerland you will get a very cheap guitar, for not such a cheap price.

I can't recommend SX guitars enough- they are ridiculously cheap and the quality is outstanding. If you do a bit of searching on them you will find that they get glowing reviews even from seasoned pros accustomed to playing the best of the best.

I bought mine through Rondo Music in the U.S. http://www.rondomusic.com/ , they were nice as could be and the price with shipping to Switzerland + customs was still far cheaper than the cheapie guitars found here, but for a truly nice instrument.

Have a look on Ebay (In Germany) for a second hand one perhaps; those things go for little second hand.

It is around $100 for delivery. Still a possibility.

atmusicstore.ch sells Almeria guitars. They get okay reviews. Any opinion on them?

EDIT: One review says "as I get up higher in the fretboard, the notes are way off". Might be an annoyance for my husband with perfect pitch (who tuned pipe organs with his dad since age 3).

I don't know anything about Almeria, so can't help there. I did quite a lot of reading on cheap guitars before buying the SX and they just killed all the competition. I actually do have 'nice' guitars too- and I have to say that if you scratched off the name and wrote "Fender" on the SX it would take my a while to notice if I even did.

As I recall it was around 100 for delivery. So figure 250 with customs etc. and you have a guitar that is as good and very likely better than instruments costing twice that (in the U.S.- probably have to pay 1000+ for similar quality here).

I don't work for them- really! Just very satisfied as well as mystified how they do it.

Gitarrentotal is a great shop when it comes to Instruments, but they don't deal much with guitars in your price range.

I had a good impression of the Musik-kuhn ( www.musik-kuhn.ch ) in Zurich, the guys are attentive there and don't mind budget customers. Also, you can haggle there (visiting online shops like www.musix.ch or www.musik-produktiv.ch before helps).

A shop of a somewhat higher price range, but with a wider choice is www.promusig.ch , they are both online and physical.

Hope it helps.

there's one round the corner from me called Central Music in central 8001. Looks good with a load of guitars in the window. As you can tell I know nothing about this subject but I walk past the shop every day.

you can get very good music instruments from Music Jacklin.zürich

Thanks. They even have a digeridoo for sale

Yes, the guys in the shop are pretty "alternative-looking" too. Honestly, quite strange to see this shop in Niederdorf, which is supposed to be a touristic, and thus a more expensive area.

As for Central Music and Jeklin, I did not have a good impression of neither of them regarding neither prices nor service. Bad luck, possibly. These two fit into the Niederdorf image for me.

It's quite important to get a feel for the guitar you want to buy. It's best to go to a shop, listen to its sound and see how it feels.

Even if you are going for a cheaper one. Unless you know exactly what you are after or you'r OK with the surprise.

If you are just wanting to learn and are not too bothered about it, then rather buy one off eBay or Ricardo. You'll get a better guitar for the same price as a crap new one.

hey, was at this market in Zurich yesterday and saw a few guitars, it could obviously be a bit hit and miss but you might be able to find what you're after there http://www.flohmarktkanzlei.ch/
