Guru - Bhagwan, His Secretary & His Bodyguard

So I was looking at Cineman website to check if there was anything worth watching at the movies tonight with my wife and came across what looks like a new Swiss docu on Osho/Rajneesh .

I personally am not into Gurus/Holy men/Prophets or God(s) but boy was OSHO an interesting chap and he did drop some deep stuff from time to time. Anyone else know about Osho? Any oldies from Oregon maybe?

Couple of his quotes that I love-

I have visited his ashram in India, lovely place-quiet, posh, well-maintained, beautiful fusion of beauty and calmness....Though he himself was Indian, he has more foreign followers than Indian!

Hi Scribble,

I am an old sannyasin though I never visited Oregon. Always happy to chat about the Old Boy and the history of the movement.

You posting from London? What does old sannyasin mean? Are you old female and renounced the world or something like a hermit?

Were you part of the movement?

The word 'sannyas' originates from Sanskrit language which means to abondon/throw away/leave something forgood.

In Hinduism, religious ascetic who has renounced the world abandoning all claims to social or family standing are called Sannyasis or Sannyasin. Like other holy men, they are not cremated but are generally buried in a seated posture of meditation.

It is the fourth stage of the Hindu understanding of the human life cycle .

wiki says s ----

"Osho was issued a thirty-five-count indictment in Multnomah County, Oregon on 28 October 1985 for immigration violations, making false statements on his visa application. He agreed to pay $400,000 in fines and was deported from the United States"

I am male, 59. Osho taught to live in the world without attachment, not to renounce it. There was and still is an initiation ceremony where you got a new name; then you became a sannyasin. I did this in 1986. Yes I was part of the movement. But I never went to Oregon; many did not.

Good info including a biography of Osho, history of the movement, forums frequented by other sannyasins, and free discourses at oshoworld.com

Also worth visiting osho.com

Apparently immigration violations and false statements is a good way of showing no attachment to the world and also having $400,000 to pay in fines.

When will people grow up?

If you have looks you become a rock star, if ugly, you become a holy man to get easy money and feel up as many women.

I thought baghwan was sentenced for terrorism and not paying tax.

His lawyers pled guilty on his behalf to two charges. The Government threatened to keep him in jail unless he pled guilty to the charges. His lawyers feared this would destroy his health.

The charges were

1. Organising sham marriages in Oregon.

2. Falsely stating on his immigration application to US that he was not intending permanent residency.

I guess there were sham marriages in Oregon to obtain US residency. But sannyasins were intelligent enough to organise them themselves.

As to (2) this happens all the time and people were rarely jailed for this. And it may well be that when he applied for the visa, he was intending to return to India. He first went to the East Coast for medical treatment.

So I believe he was not guilty on both counts. The US Government wanted to destroy his work; that is why he was arrested and paraded through the mass media.

This is by far, my personal best from his teachings...

All I read is, another religious controversy like the Crucifixion of Jesus.

Try Jiddhu Krishnamurti who was not so much a Guru but world teacher and whose teachings are a revelation.

The question is when will you grow up or better yet when will you get a life?

Back on topic, Great thread!

I will look at the youtube videos at home!
