My family is living in Baselland and my daughter is in 8th grade. The gymnasium Münsterplatz and gymnasium Bäumlihof offer the Matura and IB dual degree programs. I am planning to move to Basel so that my daughter is eligible to apply for these 2 schools. Hope everyone can give me some experience and information about them. Can you give me some advice and evaluation about these programs, please? I am very grateful for this. Moving house doesn't matter to me if it's worth it. I hope to receive your valuable advice.
I am not sure about the situation now, but for sure until a very few years ago, someone living in Baselland was able to continue in Gymnasium in Basel Stadt (Allschwil to Basel city). Maybe check that first before changing residence.
Thank you for your reply. I live in Oberwil so my daughter is not eligible to apply to Gymnasium Münsterplatz and Gymnasium Bäumlihof. That's why I will move house to Basel or Allschwil.
The compulsory subjects German, English, French, history or geography, biology, and mathematics are part of the IB program. My husband is not supportive of the IB because the IB Diploma is strict and challenging. The only downside could be the huge workload, but I think it’s a matter of organization, time management. ''Not because of the content of what they are studying, but because they learn how to work hard. They are given a lot of assignments, and the diligence and determination required to succeed through all of it is arguably the most important lesson the IB teaches them.''
I hope those of you or your children who have studied there can give me practical advice and evaluation about the study program, the learning environment, the attitude of teachers and friends. Many thanks!
My son got his Matura from Muttenz Gymnasium. The curriculum seemed very good. The workload was also high! My daughters went to Oberwil and I'm afraid the experience wasn't as good. Both dropped out (one to do an apprenticeship instead and is now studying for her Masters, the other to do an OU degree, and she's now a teacher - with two bachelors!).
