I apologize if this is already posted somewhere in another thread. I am looking for a hair salon, since I don't think I have the patience to wait until I can return to the US. Unfortunately I don't speak German (only what I've learned in my first four weeks of my course at the Migros Klubschule!) so I would really like somewhere that the stylist speaks English. Ideally this would be in Baden and would cost less than CHF 100, although I realize that I will need some luck on my side for this! I'm wondering if anyone on here knows of anything, or if I should just go to somewhere in Zurich?
For context, I am a female in my 20s, with medium length hair. I don't do color or anything crazy, just want a stylish low maintenance haircut. As I am completely incompetent at styling my hair, I prefer someone who can give me advice on what styles work for me and how to style them at home.
There's a place just off the Lindeplatz (the big intersection in Baden) called Abschnitt Uboldi. Ask for Eva Würmli, she speaks perfect English, but you would have to enquire about the price to be absolutely sure.
The only problem that you might find is that I can take a while before she has an opening.
I know, it's an old thread, but I was looking for a hair dresser in Baden as well last week. There is this new salon called Butterfly, close to the Hotel Linde (also Lindeplatz), I think the street is called Mellingerstrasse.
They do speak also english and I was really satisfied with the service. Even the price was good.
I also just learned there is also an English speaking hairstylist working in Ehrendingen, near to Baden. She is from Australia and was working in Baden years ago and I had her cut my hair then. If anyone lives in Ehrendingen or nearby and wants her details, just send me a PM.
I know a lady who does hair cut privately. She can go to your house or you can go to her house to get a cut. She is great and really knows how to give you a haircut that suits you. But since she's working from home, there's no frills and fuss like in a salon but it's guaranteed to be under CHF 100. She lives in Wuerenlingen which is close to Baden. I think she advertised on this forum before but I can't find the thread anymore. PM me and I will give you her phone number if you are interested.
How much under 100 is it? One would think it would be a lot less than a salon. I pay 83 chf in Baden (cut, wash, blow dry) and my hairdresser speaks English and they bring you coffee or water. I can pay with EC if I like. I don't have to worry about bringing cash.
But I understand some people prefer to go to someone's house. I know a woman with a professional salon (it's a legal business) in her house in Gebenstorf who speaks English and her prices are really fair for extra things like highlights, colouring.
Yes, there was a nice opening event with DJ and fashion show. That's why I give this new salon a try
I paid about 50.- for a men's haircut including: cut, wash, blow dry. I got also a coffee and also a glas of water, with no addition costs. And they also accept payment with EC.
A women's haircut is CHF 60 and men's is CHF 30. In my opinion, her skills are much better than any other hairdressers in Switzerland that we have been to. But like you said, to each her/his own. Just offering a suggestion here.
They are too busy pushing products on you then to listen to what you want.
I asked for a trip that started at my shoulders and went down in a U shape. I made sure to explain in 3 different ways (English, German and visual). Even made sure to do it twice. Before and after the wash.
They sheered me like a sheep.
The cut starts right at my chin and barely ends at the middle of my neck.
The pictures aren't too spectacular but she is a good stylist, and speaks decent English. Watch out, if she is in a good mood, quite fast(the speaking, not the cutting). Tell I sent her as well if you like.
