Since we don’t have an Off Topic section atm. Sad news for all fans of the biking cooking pair.
Ahh, that’s so sad. He and Si King had a natural chemistry and warmth that just drew you into their shows. Their travelogues around the world, as well as around the UK combined with their passion for promoting local foods were top telly. Never pretentious or showy.
I just happened to see a show last week and he looked bizarrely weak and underweight. I only then read he’s been suffering from cancer for a while. I personally liked them a lot, he will be missed. RIP
Maybe there should be an obituary section…
Same. I really liked watching their shows.
I’ve never seen their shows but I have cooked some of their recipes from the web. One was last week.
Their last series was, if you looked at it through the right filter, a grand and glorious “farewell”. Having seen the programme about his illness at Christmas and the fact that he’d stopped the chemo treatment his sad death was not a huge surprise.
I’m just really pleased that he had the chance to spend his last months doing what he loved most with the people he loved most.
RIP Dave.
I had watched the Christmas special, but hadn’t realized that there was a series to follow. Now I’m not sure I want to tune in, but I’ll add it to the watchlist. They certainly had a lot of fun and I’ve learned a lot from their shows, especially how to enjoy cooking, and not to see it as a chore.
RIP
Oh it’s well worth watching, just like earlier series. I was only referring to little things like the occasional (or slightly more than occasional) references to “best mate” and the even-more-than-normal obvious love shared between them. In the context now some of those things can be seen slightly differently.
In better news, I cooked their “Aromatic Beef Curry” last night - haven’t done it in ages and had some braising steak in the freezer bought last week that I was planning for a different dish, but was minded to do that one again. Delicious. And dead easy, really was just ten mins prep like it says in the recipe. Hairy Bikers beef curry | Indian Recipes | GoodtoKnow
(I did it in a pressure cooker to save time and make sure the beef was really soft).
Prior to the news of his death, I’d seen his regrowth of hair and resuming of filming activities as part of a recovery post cancer but now it seems that the treatment had stopped and it was just palliative. The affection and obvious emotion between them is so genuine. Si King must really be going through it right now.
