Halal Food in Zurich

I thought swiss law banned ritual slaughtering involving cutting the throat of the animal. Can someone explain how it can be kosher or halal if it's not imported meat?

The one in Basel lives in France and has his slaughterhouse in Mulhouse.

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me where to get proper halal meat in Zurich plz????

I recently Moved in to zurich. and i found one good Halal meet shop in Tramstrasse _ Sternen Oerlikon. some of my muslim friends also suggested me shops located on Josefstrasse and Hardplatz.

I meet in Tramstrasse is quiet fresh and reasonable. specially the lamb meet.

All last week I just checked with Khans restaurant. Sadly i heard the Halal food is going to be avilable from 1st June 2011. As the current meet source is not 100% guaranteed. Khans have now changed their meet vendor starting next month.

people who have had earlier there. No Hard feelings. Unless and until your thought is good then there is nothing wrong. All the best.... Enjoy life

It can't. As I understand it, all kosher and halal meat here is imported.

The best thing to do: go to Mulhouse (1.5h with your car). You will find plenty of halal shops! Much cheaper than in ZH, needless to say.

You will of course be limited to 500gr fresh meat per person, or 3kg of poultry and prepared meats like sausages. If you bring more you will have to declare it and pay duty on it.

It is allowed, but the animal has to be stunned first. So strict Muslims will not consider Swiss halal to be so.

It's called marketing.

Especially with words like Halal that are so easy to misspell (I'm seeing a lot of shops selling helal for example), and then you're not even breaking any laws.

If you're interested in buying any organec produce at a premium price, please send me a PM.

To Odile: don't worry abount controls at the border, especially for food. I've never been controled, and I presume they are some tolerance.

If you get caught and are over you will have to pay the excess duty and a fine that can be upto 5 times what the excess duty is.

I've been caught. It was painful. Declare it and be on your way. Much easier

The customs officers here DO CONTROL - I can assure you. Sadly, and I am very sorry to have to say that, they do 'target' such controls to anybody who looks like they might be importing meat.

It's in turkish!

Was given the information yesterday that the Geren-Metzg not only has a very friendly butcher, as they prepare very good Halal food at a reasonable price.

http://www.geren-metzg.ch/

Bahnhofstrasse 5, Stäfa (100 metres away from Railway Station)

It belongs to a family Vejsilovic, which might help out east europeans with a language difficulty

Hope that helps

as the first vowel in this word in Arabic is not written anyway it is rather irrelevant whether you write HeLAL or HaLAL (even HäLAL might go)

Most Halal meat sold in Switzerland comes from that gigantic state-owned Halal-slaughterhouse in Besançon --- which actually under permanent supervision of the "Haut-Rabbinat de Paris" which again is in permanent touch with Muslim authorities and organisations in France, the Benelux, and Switzerland

Strangely enough, I saw somebody at the custom's near Pontarlier yesterday having his car totally emptied- there was packs of meat strewn all over the place - and the guy looked stunned.

Was that a word play Odile?

Touché! (no).
