Hardware store open today in zurich - 3 cm drainage pipe

Hi All,

I tried to take off the U/bend drain under bathroom sink and the connector pipe broke. Prefer to get it fixed/replaced today, rather than monday morning rush to jumbo before rushing to work.

Searched google already. Blattner.ch does not seem to carry what I am looking for.

Are there any hardware stores in zurich that are open today that might have the (extension) pipe on the right? Internal diameter is 3cm. The lip is cracked.

As a temporary fix you could try wrapping tape around the pipe or thick rubber bands.

Good luck

good call. thank you.

if I did that, I would need to take it apart again and take with me to the hardware store for ‘exact’ match. Also run risk of leaks between now and until fixed, while enjoying the comfort of the bathroom sink …

I have to flip the coin now. LOL

Those plastic parts are made in standard sizes (40mm and 50mm) so it should be easy to match.

If you are really worried it is probably long enough that you can cut a slice off as an example.

Thank you marton.

This is quite old stuff and the person who put it in place cut that connector pipe too long, i my opinion. It’s a tight fit. It’s easy to install. But a) taking it off makes it difficult because of very little tolerance for movement specially given the length of the connector pipe, b) it reaches almost to the bottom of the U; when water tries to drain, it creates a feedback, pushing water up, c) lets gunk collect on the incoming side of the U. I think this is what caused the gunk buildup and Drano was not so effective.

I flipped The Coin. Head Lady starred back at me… Ran to action. Applied some duct tape around that crack and put it all back together. there is a small leak - need to replace the gaskets; they are all kaput.

For now, have a slightly leaky drainage (with towel under it); will enjoy a less stressful monday am … mosey on to the week peacefully …

Thanks every one!

Duct tape and chewing gum was the technical term when the security engineers at my last employer did a review on some software stack (often an acquisition) that didn’t look particularly robust.

I would have also recommended this approach for the broken connector pipe.
