Have you found any amazing uses for AI?

One of Bill Gates’s pet projects is nuclear power. His argument, which seems reasonable, is that most designs for power stations date back decades, and we can do far better. His project starts from scratch again, which is what he’s doing. I think he is onto something. Used Nuclear fuel, for example, can be reused, you just need to design doing so into your solution.

Does anyone actually think that Brad Pitt could find La Reunion on a map?

Oh, Switzerland is on the naughty list (not a trustworthy ally). Any idea why there are some restrictions to buy ?

We are no ones trusted ally, we are neutral.

That must hurt Rösti’s feelings. Unrequited love.

Trusted enough to buy the F-35 Lightning combat jets, because Switzerland will not disclose sensitive info.

Not trusted enough because suspicion of reselling computer parts to 3rd parties. I guess it’s an indirect recognition of being too good at business

Maybe they worry Pilatus Flugzeugwerke AG could build their own F-35 with those chips? :grinning:

Actually I still think we’re not on the list because Trump still doesn’t know where the heck we are situated.

Somewhere between Sweden and Syria.

It was the democrats, and not Trump who drew up the list originally.

The FTA with China and the lack of investment controls can’t have helped. Neither calling the relationship an “innovative strategic partnership”, or the Memorandum of Understanding on the Belt and Road Initiative (the “New Silk Road”, look for MoU in the linked page).

Nice article on Deepseek, AI and the US chip ban:

I’ve just been road testing deepseek and I have to say I’m very impressed. I am throwing very complex questions on FDA drug guidance and its responding in seconds, as opposed to up to a minute (ChatGPT o1), and the answers are spot on.

The Americans were right to call it their “Sputnik moment”. This AI came from left field, is very competent, and it was developed for a few mill. Incredible!

Edit: Just don’t ask it about Taiwan or Tianamen Square.

Or anything else slightly controversial.

When you do, it replies (conveniently) with The server is busy. Please try again later.

Just curiosity. Google is transparent with the ads, they are labeled as ads. Ever seen ads in Ai?

I have put an auto suggestion into the “mind” of GPRChat. It will self destruct on its own bullshit in T minus 5 hours.

One AI machine was asked to self-replicate if it was going to be shut down.
Seven times out of ten it managed this.

Imagine if your AI is going out of control. You shut it down. You take an axe to the servers.
Too late, it has cloned itself and is operating elsewhere (or in many places).

I find it quite apt that ChatGPT lost its job to AI.

How or what would an out of Control AI do?
Just the possibility that AI could get out of Control is scary enough, but Imagine it has just enough Self awareness to react to a threat.
