I doubt it would need even a modicum of self awareness to take action to protect itself.
If the AI is not connected to an SCADA system, it has no control over anything. So, no worries.
If it’s connected to the internet - and most AI is in some form, then hypothetically it could find a means to connect to anything else connected to the internet.
SCADA systems supporting the control of a hydropower dam, an oil refinery or electricity distribution are networks covering the installation and allegedly (and hopefully), not connected to the internet.
So were the Iranian centrifuges, but if there’s a will, there’s a way and stuxnet still struck them. If its digital, its hackable.
Hydro-power with electricity distribution are already talking to each other - probably over IP for newer systems.
From a supplier:
Internet and Web SCADA
Traditionally SCADA communications have been Point-to-Multipoint serial communications over lease line or private radio systems (i.e. RS232, RS485, BEL202). With the advent of Internet Protocol (IP), IP Technology has seen increased use in SCADA applications.
So, we’re potentially screwed
This is where you’re wrong
So, what’s the right take?
A looot of our infrastructure is connected (and badly) to the webz. You would be amazed the amount of old systems still in power stations that still have some weak root password.
What? Turn off the whole internet?
Not Even that will work if your hostile AI goes all lawnmower man.
Just Burocracy
As a search engine with fragments of half-remembered memories.
I was looking for a Japanese cartoon I saw in the 80s. With very little to go on, ChatGPT was able to identify it as “Creamy Mami” with one clarification.
This was driving me nuts and I was happy to find old clips and the theme song on YT.
I’ve just discovered that Duck.ai can interface with a number of AIs anonymously. Cha GGT; Llama 3.1; Claude 3; o3; Mistral.
DuckDuckGo AI Chat
Leaving aside the moral question of someone using someone else’s service for free in order to generate essentially free traffic that can be monetizd, I’m pretty sure, chatgpt and the rest will block incoming requests from duckgogo at some point.
The broader question of anonymous usage of such powerful services is a matter of debate. Imho, this should never be anonymous simply because its so powerful that it will eventually be used for destructive purposes.
The upcoming AI wars……!
Oh poop, why can’t the future be fun!
You mean Alcoholics Incorporated?
