Well I want to buy a car, and my driver license is not valid here anymore (i am here for 2.5 years) and also they took my driver license, so i have only a paper that way given by them.
Well I am going to buy a car and after buying i need to have insurance for car and after i can get a plate.
But i am not sure if this is possible? I have only copy of my previous driver license. and I have L permit residence.
Is there anyone knows something about it?
Both of my daughters registered and insured motorcycles (several) without a license, and one a car as well.

@st2lemans, its a good news. I also heard that you may not. but sometimes they ask.. (I think that they assume that you have already a license )

Just rent, or come with a driving instructor and his car. Also not a bad idea to take a couple of lessons to learn what the swiss instructors look at the exam.
@ivank, you are absolutely right in this context. I am not a so good driver also I need a car to do more practice and definetly I am going to take some course from an instructor, otherwise as you mentioned, i may be fail and the process will be complicated. but even i fail then I can give the car to my gf, because she is also preparing for the exam and after i pass the theory exam, i can continue.

well I remember my old topic about driving car for this situation.. Tom and you and also others said "probably", I may not drive with this thing
but the paper that they sent me, it says i can drive until the exam time and I have a right to postpone exam date one time (if i have a good reason for it)
They gave me around 1 month for this. I live in Bern.. Well we called Basel and they said, its 4 months and I think in Lausanne, it is 3 months, you may drive before the exam even the driver license is expired..
this is what I've learnt from the official traffic places. Maybe it will be useful for some people..
You are forbidden to drive on your own until you've successfully passed the practice exam. Before that you need somebody who's allowed to supervise and accompany you do so; this can be the professional driving instructur or some friend who qualifies, but until such time you must not drive on your own, neither does your gf .
After passing the test you're not automatically authorized to supervise and drive with a learner. I'm not exactly up-do-date on the requirements, but IIRC after passing the practical exam successfully you may not supervise another learner for multiple years.

Many foreign owners of Swiss property own, insure and garage cars in Switzerland and quite legally drive on their foreign licenses. Insurers will sell policies to anyone, but if the terms of the policy are violated you will have paid for it in vain.
(Actually the insurer may have to pay out to a third party, but it can then sue you for reimbursement if you made a misrepresentation.)
As soon as you have a confirmed date for the test drive YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DRIVE UNRESTRICTED. This has been confirmed by the stva in Zürich, and this is what I did 2 years ago. I even double checked and they confirmed it is OK.
as mentioned in the paper, I do not need somebody who has a driver license for several years. That means i can drive the car alone
and other your mistake is that if i pass the exam, my driver license start date will be taken from my previous one. I have a friend who passed the test and his driver license date has started the date which is on the previous driver license time.
For example I took my previous one in 2012, so if i pass this test, my new swiss driver license will also start 2012.

And "is not Swiss" 15% plus "is from fromer Yugoslavian country" 30% would mean - the way you put it - 45% plus for them? That can't possibly be correct?
actually, why people from former Yugoslavia pay extra I never understood, do you know the reasoning?
Today I got an insurance from Axa Winterthur. A small insurance company did not want to offer to me an insurance because I have a L permit, and we've contacted Axa insurance and they made an insurance (even they did not care my previous driver license, i think it increases the price, whatever)
so I am going to pay around 900 chf per year (i think its a simple insurance and if my car does not work, they will come to pick me up)..
After that I went to verkehrsamt to have a plate, i saw also a problem there my working permit is going to expire end of the july so they said that they are going to give me a special plate that also valid until end of the july and then when i got a new work permit (does not matter L or B as she explained), they are going to give me a normal plate. So in 10-15 minutes i got my new plate
Maybe this information will be useful for some people. Because its really difficult to find information like that. I have to try and learn by myself and sometimes it can be painful
AFAIK, Lernfahrers always need an accompanying person that is at least 23 yrs old and has possessed a driving license for at least 3 years.
Of the short version? Maybe. I would say it is a condensed version of the long one w/o parking, reversing, and a bit less focus on handling of the car.
In general:
Know and follow the traffic rules and signs.
Do not hinder anyone and keep up with the traffic.
Drive with foresight and do not endanger any one else.
