Health Insurance in Switzerland and Germany

Hi everyone,

I work in Zurich with B permit, have health insurance with CSS company.

My husband is German, pensioner, and he is under German government health insurance.

I live /work mainly in Zurich during weekdays and weekend back to Munich with family, where I registered as second home address.

Recently for some private paperworks to be done in Munich, Gemeinde asked me to apply residence permit and on-spot issued me a temp. Aufenthalt pass (as family reunion) before registered business. And it is requested to submit Health insurance for Germany before my Aufenthalt valid for longer period.

My husband checked with his insurance company and they cover family scheme provided that I contact CSS insurance in Swiss and provide the complete E106 form then I can be part of the family scheme without additional charge.

I contacted CSS support, but seem they dont know what E106 and insisted that I have to buy new health insurance in Germany as CSS covers only in Swiss.

Just wondering if anyone has the same situation as me? and how you manay to sort out the health insurance to avoid paying from both countries?

P/S: and I guess G (corss border) permit is not applicable to my case as I am still holding B permit in CH. I only "cross border" back home (in germany) for unemployment. My source of income is only from job in Swiss

Thanks very much in advance

So you hold a Swiss and a German residence permit?

That can be done, however, you do not need to pay health insurance as well in Germany.

Have a similar situation with hubby living/working in Germany and I visit almost every weekend. Nobody asked me for health insurance and the tax office is satisfied when I send in a copy of my tax return in CH with the tax return hubby does in Germany.

Edit: unless your partner is privately insured, health insurance can cover partners/kids in Germany

Change your registration/residence in Switzerland from ordinary residence (permit B) to Wochenaufenthalter with main residence in Germany. That may require some form of deregistration but do make sure beforehand that whatever you're told to do allows you to keep working in Switzerland.

Yes. Both

I think in your case, you are holding resistance permit in Swiss only right? Then no need to pay anything in Germany. That was how I did last year. But recently as I also need German residence permit for solving some personal issues, so now they asked me to buy German insurance, and in Swiss of course I have to buy insurance as well.

According the information given you seem to be a Grenzgänger/Wochenaufenthalter with main residency in Germany (where your family home is) and Wochenaufenthalt in Switzerland (not Swiss !).

Sorting out your situation might be difficult and be prepared to pay back German taxes which you have evaded. Considering you use "Swiss" instead of Switzerland I suspect you are a non-EU national. Beeing a Grenzgänger in this case might not be an option if you have only a permit B!

I strongly advice to get in contact with a Verein like Grenzgänger INFO (see above link) as well as a German lawyer which now German immigration and tax law.
