Heat Pump Service packages

Hi all

With the warranty period of our heat pump nearing its end, we were wondering what others did regarding service packages.

We have the choice between

1) Warranty extension w/o yearly checks ca. 450CHF/Year

2) All inclusive package = Warranty extension with yearly checks 850 / Year

Is the all inclusive package worth it? In 20 years we would more or less pay the price of a new heat pump.

Also, what happens if say after 18 years the heat pump has a major defect? Is everything still covered or is there a risk that the anserwould be that the heat pump needs replacement - at our costs - as it allegedly reached its lifetime?

I would research what the costs would be from other providers. Your provider has no incentive to give you a good deal, that is until you tell them you can get it cheaper elsewhere.

Well the provider is the manufacturer of the heat pump

Both sound expensive to me tbh. It looks as to what they're basically offering is insurance, and expensive insurance at that.

Once heat pumps are installed they just run and run. Unless you're unlucky, there's very little that can go wrong. Even for a service a maintenance guy will just give it the up and down and go off again.

I was unlucky once already. They had to exchange a component of the heat pump about 1 1/2 years after isntallation. It took them 3 trips and a total of over 10 working hours.

So getting a warranty extension has been decided. The question is more about the yearly checks. I am incliuded not to go for the yearly checks as I do think there is little to check if all is running. If not, the warranty kicks in anyhow.

That is daylight robbery if you ask me.

Personally I wouldn’t bother. There’s not a lot that can go wrong with a heat pump and a routine check doesn’t actually cost much.

When our cellar flooded and we got them in to check the pump over in case water had got in the whole visit didn’t cost more than 300chf and be checked the whole system plus gave us a form for the insurance just in case there were any issues later on.

I wouldn't go for either, however if you've made up your mind then to take warranty extension then I wouldn't take the yearly checks. As BM mentioned, a checkup could be done for less than the 400 chf they're asking for, and as you already mentioned you would be covered under warranty in any case.

I guess you meant "wouldn't"

Yes I did.
