HEC Lausanne good school?

Hi guys!

I want to share what I found out with some research.

Apparently Lausanne Is a fun city haha (: Many international people and a large student population (Epfl, Unil, Ehl..)

As I know it, you do not need to know french, MscM is in english, only some optional classes are in french..

Hec Lausanne is indeed ranked top 20 in the world by FT..

My questions are:

1) How can I have french courses in september? And is it free?

2) How does Exchange semester work? Is it possible? Is it hard?

PS: Should we take the initiative to create a Facebook group "MscM Class of 2015"? Do you think its time? (:

Cant wait to meet you all! (:

GUys, Do you know the job prospects after the course in HEC Lausanne ?

The French courses for non native speakers can be found on this website http://www.unil.ch/fle/page68756_en.html

I was looking at the academic calendar and it shows nothing about a break around November? At University of St. Gallen I had 2 weeks off in Nov. Am I Missing something here?

I would be thankful, if anybody (the more the better) could tell me, what the criteria for the admission to the master in management are?

As there's no GMAT or GRE do you have to have quite high marks to get in? Or does anyone know what the HEC Lausanne is using as their main criteria? Working experience, marks, extracurrical activities,...?

It would be great, if some of you who got accepted for the management master could tell me a little bit about that

Hi Viennese,

It isn't difficult to get into HEC Lausanne. They way the admission process works is they pretty much accept everyone as long as your profile seems alright. It is the first semester that is the test of whether you stay in the program or not. This is the most difficult semester and if you do not pass you have 1 more try to repeat the semester and if you still don't pass then you are kicked out of the program. I really quite like this concept as they don't put too much weight on your past performance in school and are mainly interested in how well you do in their program. This also brings in a lot of money from registration fees and 1st semester tuition fees. But as far as previous work experience, grades, and extracurricular activities go, you should obviously have decent grades and some activities. As long as you didn't have failing grades and a blank CV.

Also, I'm speaking from a business background. I did my bachelor's in Business Admin and my internships are all corporate, so if you come from a completely different background/field of study I am not sure how that works. I did meet a few people who did their bachelor's in very different fields such as Psychology, and they were very intelligent so maybe the criteria for admission is more rigorous for them

Thank you very much for your kind answer.

A system where they let try people, if they can make it, seems a really good one to me.

Well, my GPA will be around 2,0-1,7, I suppose that corresponds to 5,0-5,3 in Switzerland. So is that more or less ok or not good enough?

Anything that's 5.0 and above is very good in Switzerland. 6.0 is perfect and nearly impossible. 5.5 is almost perfect and 5.0 is very good. Most people strive for something between 5.0 and 5.5 .

Thank you very much for your information!! =)

No problem and there's loads of helpful information on just about every topic in this forum if you search using keywords.

Hello, may someone please tell me if he/she received two letters after sending his documents for UNIL enrollment: the first from the faculty and the second from the Service Des Inscriptions Et Immatriculations which is a certificate that you can use for requiring the residence permit and that is the proof you are admitted to UNIL? How much time did they take to send it?

Many thanks, I received the letter from the faculty a week after I sent my application but it has been almost two months I have not received anything else.

If you've applied for the fall semester I wouldn't expect an actual admittance letter from the admissions office until May/June time. If you're really antsy, why not call the admissions office and see if they can give you an update on your application. Hope that helps!

Hi TuxedoPants, many thanks for your reply!! I sent an e-mail to HEC Masters department this morning, I applied on 22 of january and received a letter from the faculty on the 30th, which is not a certificate, was that the same procedure for you?

That letter I received states "Your final admission is subject to possible additional conditions to be indicated to you by the Central Admissions Department", did you also receive that and then the certificate? Thanks!

did you also apply for the fall semester?

Hi everyone,

Could somebody please tell me what the chances of getting accepted are for someone with a bachelor from a UK university in the field of the Master, without a GMAT score?

Jason

Hi jasonluke,

I submitted my application without a GMAT score and I have been admitted, I think they do not consider it a "must have", formally they do not request anything in particular for the admission, they consider the grades and subjects of the examinations taken during the bachelor.

If they had considered it important they would have written it on the admission page, for instance EPFL requires more things to be admitted and it is all written on their webpage.

Thanks thedrush for your fast reply! By any chance, do you know whether this would be the same for University of Zurich? As I am looking to apply for both.

Regards,

Luke

You're welcome, I don't know what the UZH requires, but I think Zurich is very similar to Lausanne: both cities have a University and an University of applied science, where the latter requires more things to be admitted, even formally, they make selections with interviews, they want references, etc... therefore I think that UZH is similar to UNIL, even though I did not see their admission page and I do not know anything about it.

Hello guys!

I've got a question with regards to HEC Lausanne acceptances. I am an international student applying to HEC Lausanne. I applied in mid-February for a MscF, and haven't heard from them yet. I was wondering if I should be worried or not?

Lausanne is my first choice, and I am hoping to hear back from them soon.

Anyone else here an international student who has applied?

Hi Ramadanovic,

I think you should hear a response from there soon since I applied in mid january and received the acceptance letter 2 weeks ago

Grazie mille, thedrush!

Fingers crossed I hear from them after Easter.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply! Really appreciate it!
