Hello - From Mumbai to Switzerland

Hello All,

I have moved from India (Mumbai) to Swiss a couple of months back and many-a-times when I have looked around for some answers on line, I have found something useful on English Forum. Finally I decided to join it and feel happy to be part of this on line community.

I am married and have two children (son aged six+ and daughter aged 2+). Currently we are trying to find our feet but getting around okay.

Would be glad to be of help in case any one has any questions on travel to India or about India.

Best

Welcome to CH and to the forum.

Welcome ooohhh questions about India?! Thanks for the offer! I WANT to go there but I'll have to wait until my two are a bit older. I love Indian food and culture.

Welcome to the forum and to Swi(ss)tzerland

All the best to you and your family on your new life here.

Bienvenue en Suisse Romande- welcome to the French speaking part of Switzerland

Where is Swiss?

Many Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

Odile - I am going to start with French lessons next week onwards and look forward to it.

Meisie - My wife cooks really yummy Indian food. She would be happy to share her skills.

Holiday G - back in India Swiss is a abbreviation for Switzerland !

Cheers to all and wishing you a nice long weekend !

to the EF and the land of the Swiss!

A reasonable, albeit not officially recognized, abbreviation. For some strange reason it seems to cause great pain to some members of our community.

A subsidiary of German airline Lufthansa. I heard they fly all over the place.

Welcome to the EF. I enjoyed watching IPL2011 and supported Mumbai Indians (Malinga, Pollard, Symonds, Tendulkar). Awesome bowlers and batsmen.

Hi Rajput

Welcome to Forum and welcome to Switzerland. Hope you find your transition smooth. We are also from India and have kids about same age as yours, although we have been here for over 5 years. If you are around in Zurich with your family, you are most welcome to meet up at ours.

Just a few tip, like some one mentioned above Switzerland loving expats in this forum have low tolerance and less considerations when people call Switzerland Swiss. It is like you saying I am moving to Indian.

Another one, get to your Skis from very first season along with 6 year old. This is one of the best advantage of moving to Switzerland so don't miss it. Enjoy Cheese and chocolate (although Belgian are the best ) goes without saying.

So welcome again and have great start..

Hey Rajput welcome to the forum..

i am also from india ...moved to zurich..last feb..

hope you have a smooth transition.. learning the local language should help a lot.. (but german !!!) i guess french should be easier

..and ch is probably a more tolerated abbreviation here.

enjoy

Hoi Rajput! Welcome to the forum, and welcome to Swiss!

Swiss is a lovely place to live, once you get used to some of the weirder aspects of the local culture - such as members of an internet forum getting bent out of shape at people daring to use an anglicised homophone of Suisse instead of the more cumbersome Switzerland . They seem to be oblivious to the fact that there are more varieties of English than those used in the British Isles and North America, and are unwilling to accept that such an abbreviation is harmless, logical, and intuitively comprehensible to newcomers and oldtimers alike, in a way that CH, for example, might not be.

If you can get used to the tiresome pedantry, though, both Swiss and the English Forum are delightful places to spend your time.

Good luck!

Fixed that for you?

You may want to create your own thread in complains corner so you can annihilate us for such a great ofense to the OP

How dare you not refer to Swiss by its proper name:

Confoederatio Helvetica

Swiss, Switzerland, Swissieland, Suisse, Schweiz, Svizzera

Whew ! Didn't imagine that my innocuous reference would stir up a debate. Have heard all views and respect them; let's put this to bed and move ahead - Life is beautiful !

Nice to hear from some of my fellow brethren from India. Thanks for the tips folks.

Just wanted to update all who are in love with the Alphonso mango (It's rated the king of fruits in Mumbai) and wondering where to get some - you can get them in the Asian store right next to Lausanne railway station (Rue du Simplon). You can also get a superb variety of "Chausa" mangoes which I found are from Pakistan and taste and smell yummy. Try it folks if you can get your hands on them!

Cheers !

Hi Dougal's Breakfast !

Thanks for putting things in perspective. I am settling in okay and looking forward to a great time in Switzerland. Like they said - "In Rome be like Romans". Hopefully with the French lessons, I will be able to get my act together

Best

Timpy - Thanks for the warm welcome and your advice

Look forward to the skiing season when it starts. I am in Morges (in the middle of Lausanne and Geneva) and do let me know as well if you happen to come this side.

Cheers !

and you forgot Sweden!

Where they speak Swissish, of course.
