Hello from Rothrist

Hello everyone,

I'm new to Rothrist (AG) Switzerland - just arrived 3 weeks ago. My husband was transferred here in January. I stayed in Vermont to finish out the school year with my kids. Our house is for sale there, but I'm not very optimistic - that's another story though. Our son will be attending the local school and learning German, and our daughter, who is 16 months, will be home with me. I'm continuing to work part-time in my job, working on grant writing and other online projects.

I am very much looking forward to meeting people here, both English speakers and our neighbors (the reason I'm starting German classes next week). If anyone lives near Rothrist (close to Zofingen, Oftrigen, Aaru), I would love to get in touch.

I love running and biking and see there are some groups that get together for weekly activities.

This forum is a great resource. Before joining, I used it often to see what to expect when I moved here (and where to find cheddar cheese, which is a family staple). I look forward to learning more from everyone about living in Switzerland.

Natalie

Welcome to the forum and to Switzerland.

Thanks, Alan. How long have you lived here?

Hello welcome

Hey, there are a few of us who live in the Olten area (zofingen, aarburg, olten) we often get together for drinks on a Friday night..... if your interested in joining us, let me know.

Welcome to Switzerland and the EF!

You'll find many weird and wonderful people on here.

Also, for social activities, sporting activities in the local area are good: every town in Switzerland appears to have its own football (soccer) club, for example ...

welcome! i love vermont- spent alot of time on the ny/vermont border, one of my fav areas!

best of luck and if you ever visit lausanne with your family, let me know and my son would be excited to play with another american- it'd be a treat!

enjoy!

Hi there!! Myself and my girlfriend live in Aarburg, there's a load of us English speakers who go out in Olten/Zofingen most weekends for some social drinks. We also go cycling a fair bit, snowboarding, days out etc.

I'm sure we will be going out this weekend, send me a PM and I will let you have my mobile number.

Take care, welcome!!

Hi there,

Yes, I would like to say I moved here for the skiing, biking and hiking, although the truth is it was my husband's job. Certainly not a bad assignment as far as relocations go.

Hi, I hope are settleing well in Rothrist, I am also moving there in the next few months and would be really interested to know where you will be learning German. Its the first thing on my list I have to do.

Any help would be appriciated and look forward to bumping into you at the local cafe !

I hope she is still around after 2 years:
