I am new from Singapore and not actually living in Switzerland but in the German border town of Lörrach, very near to Riehen in the Basel region. I hope it is still alright to post here.
I found this active forum by chance and have been reading it regularly for the past weeks. I have found some really useful information here eg. where to learn german, difficulties in finding engllish speaking work, etc. I think others like me who can / do commute to Switzerland will also find this website helpful.
Wonder if there are any Singaporeans in Basel? Or any English speaking members also living in Lörrach?
grüezi and herzlich wilkommen! u can put up a message at http://temasekclub.multiply.com/ and see if there are any singaporeans in Basel, i'm sure there're a few.
Welcome to the forum. You are a lot closer to Switzerland than I am, and I have been posting for a year without a problem!
If you use the search function, you will find several threads that mention Lörrach. Searching the member list, there don't appear to be any other members living there, but there are over 1200 living in Basel and over 130 living in Germany.
Basel does seem to be a quite active area with members.
Yes, there is at least one English speaking member in Lorrach - Dodger ( Australian / German couple ), and selamat datang dari Singapura ke Switzerland.
Thanks Dodger. Yes i think Lörrach is a nice place to live in. I have been here for 7 weeks now and still getting to know the area. Not knowing German (the local dialect, Swiss German, HG) can be challenging around here and having an English forum like this is sort of a comfort. Any recommendations for a german course in Lörrach? Only read about the ones in Basel on this forum.
There are a couple of language schools in Lörrach - look up "Sprachschulen" at www.gelbeseiten.de - but I didn't go to any there so I can't recommend anything.
If you work in Basel, discuss language classes with your employer. Many places give their employees the chance to attend German classes. And they pay for it, too.
Am Malaysian and have several Singaporean friends scattered between Zurich and Zug. I'm sure you'll make lots of friends in the next few months if you make an effort to circulate. All the best!
