Help cleaning ceramic cook top

Folks, I've never owned a ceramic cook top range until I moved here, about a year ago. I think our cook needs an extra cleaning on the surface (looks like something sticky is covering one of the elements...although only looks sticky, but actually feels like dry lacquer).

I've been looking for something like a cook top razor blade that can scrape the burnt-on stuff without scratching the glass, but couldn't find it in stores. My rather poor German doesn't allow me to explain to such a level of detail in Coop or Migros, so I wonder what kind of stuff you folks use for this. Any brand or product name ?

Also, any other cleaning supply recommendation (for lighter spills, or less burnt-on spills) would be greatly appreciated.

I call it a "Glasschaber". Pretty sure the last one I bought was in Coop.

"Mellerud" cleaning products are not cheap but very effective. You can get them in Coop Bau & Hobby

Use a shaving razor. Works on mine and does not scratch.

indeed there are products in most supermarkets to clean the top and there are razorblades in the same area to remove stubborn, cooked-in stains.

We were advised by the representative of Swiss appliance manufacturer Zug who visited our home to instruct us how to use our new appliances (only in Switzerland!) that no special cleaners are required for ceramic hobs and recommended Jif/Cif, which we have used for 8 years without problem...

I was told the same as Ab Fab.

Additionally given a ceramic-hob-cleaning-cloth to use.

Wonderful

i won't add to the cleaning tips which are all faboulos, but i have another tip for you when using sugar e.g making jam or any such thing make sure that NONE spills onto the hot hob,as this will burn into the glass and can't be removed then .

Razor blades and scratching? ARE YOU GUYS NUTS?

I use a product called "Sigolin" for "Chromstahl and GlasKeramik" and an everyday scrubby-sponge and it usually does the trick.

The trick to keeping things nice is to NOT wait too long between cleanings, i.e. the longer you let muck build-up, the more elbow grease it's gonna take to get it clean again!

Hope this helps!

razor blades work a lot better than my ceramic clothes that's fer sure

carrie, look here that's what they mean or at least something similar looking to this

My dear we are not talking the same as you use for your parts we are talking about a device similar to a razor blade specifically made for ceramic hobs and it does not scratch them just removes the burnt on spillages and "burnt in" jam stains.

Well, that was great help, folks. I decided to follow common sense (and Lob's/Jamaican's recommendation) and used a cardboard cutter blade to remove the big stuff, and then a ceramic-friendly cleaner like Cif (the one that the girl in Migros pointed at, basically) to finish off the cleaning. No scratches and (almost) clean as new.

At first I thought I'd have to get the special Glasschaber, but when I looked at the pictures...well, it looked like a fancy razor blade to me. Thnx again !

Does anyone know of a good brand of cleaning solvent for cleaning halogen hobs? I just can't seem to keep mine looking clean at all.

We use POLYPLUS from Migros which is pretty good, much better than the supposedly similar stuff I bought in Germany a few months ago.
