Anee, you need to give some idea of what you like to do with your 1.5yo., and what kind of dwelling you're looking for, and what price range. If you have a budget of 1500 for an apartment and like to walk to the shops, it's quite different than if you have a budget of 8000 to rent and like to drive everywhere.
When i was pregnant i Moved from St.Gallen to Arbon ( 15 mins away from St.Gallen ) it as a lovely Park and a Big Outside Pool. I did Not want to live in St.Gallen with Kids
St Gallen is one of my favourite cities in Switzerland. apart from the very centre, it is all quite suburban.
The main factors are likely to be your budget, whether you will be using public transport or not and any facilities that are important to you (local shops, nursery, open space etc.)
Hey, you make it sound like St.Gallen has a problem?! St.Gallen is a great place to bring little kids. The town centre is a little tight for space so not great for small children, but pretty much all of the districts are nice for families. Any of the following would be great for you: Rotmonton, Halden, Grossacker, Bruggen, Winkeln, Wolfgangshof etc.
St.Gallen is a small town, it takes at most 35 minutes for your husband to walk from the most distant outskirt to the MBA (I timed it myself). The great bus network means that he doesn't have to walk though :-).
I am looking for a place which has some kids' activities/park in 5-10 min walking distance.
Also, prefer a market within 10-15 min walking distance as I do not intend to maintain a car. I also prefer some liveliness around the house instead of quite neighborhood.
Which one of these neighborhoods would suit my preferences - Rotmonton, Halden, Grossacker, Bruggen, Winkeln, Wolfgangshof, Arbon or city center.
Maybe you should take a good look at the St.Gallen Site to get a better idea of the city and surroundings. I honestly don't think you'll have people queuing up on here to tell you which area is best for you. You also talk about being within short walking distance of a market but public transport is available too. One must get a general idea of the place before being too specific.
I'm sorry I cannot be more helpful, but check out if housing prices would be within your budget. It is useless us saying - find a flat 'there' if you cannot afford it anyway.
1500 is not a bad budget in St. Gallen. You should be able to find something nice for that. There are no bad areas as such in SG, so it's really whether you prefer to live up on a hill or on the valley floor.
Hi Annee, your budget is fine for finding a place for a family. It won't be luxurious but is plenty to find a nice place. St.Gallen is a very green town and pretty much any area outside the immediate town centre is going to give you plenty of green space for the children. You can't really make a bad choice. As for shops there are big shopping centres in the centre and in Abtwil and Halden. The rest of the town has regular small supermarkets so I bet it would be hard to find somewhere with more than a 10 minute walk to a supermarket.
Where did you hear that from I lived in Arbon for 10yrs have many Friends that live there and all Love Arbon we only Moved 8 mins away from Arbon because we did Not like the Kids School
