help! having a baby in Switzerland

Hello all! I'm new to the forum, though I have been reading for several months. I'm probably not going about introductions properly, but here I go with my first request: i have searched a bit, but was wondering if anyone had more recent information on V-bacs in Switzerland? This is my third child, and I had c-sections with the first two, with my youngest being nearly ten years old. I am hoping i could find out if anyone knew of facilities or Drs willing to try for a natural birth. Is this even a popular thing to do here? I've been seen at the Kantonsspital (Baden), but I'm never sure of which Dr I am seeing, as it changes every time, and consultation isn't really a priority it seems.

Any pointers or advice would be appreciated.

I'm sure someone will be along to help you with your specific questions, but in the meantime, there's lots of useful advice in this thread.

I am pregnant – What to expect when expecting in Switzerland

Dear Ms Witch.

Welcome to the forum.

Baden Spital has a very good reputation, with many English speaking personnel and mostly good bedside manor in the neo natal unit.

With your 3rd kid they will also respect that you know a little what you are doing. I have friends who have had V-bacs there, with the 2nd for one mum, and the 3rd for another (2 c's).

Anything "natural" is popular here - but they wont risk your life(s).

The doctors however will be non-committal - don't take it personally. You may only get to decide on the day, what you're really doing

You can stay in the hospital for 5-10 days. Take the break

Thank you for your responses. I appreciate the link, and the tips/words of encouragement.

Have you decided on a gender?

Tom

Natural vaginal births after C-sections are influenced by a variety of factors but most medical centers are largely concerned with the status of your previous uterine scar - which would need to be evaluated during your pregnancy by ultrasound to determine what sort of risk it might present for vaginal birth

It's true that many won't assume the risk but there are certainly those who will provided your old scar(s) is assessed. You fall into the VBA2C category and your age & reasons for previous c-sections will be among the parameters to evaluate what sort of candidate/risk you might be for vaginal birth

Stressful I'm sure but the goal is always the same, a safe & healthy delivery and there are certainly plenty of birthing units in Switzerland that are dedicated to the most natural childbirth possible. Hope it works out for you, even as a father I have noted how different the experience was for all of us when we had VBAC after an 'emergency c-section' with the first

What is stopping you from going to an OB/GYN in a private practice? You may still deliver at KSB (hospital in Baden) if the doctor you select delivers babies there.

I had a very nice experience at the Hirslanden clinic.

You can visit it before hand to get to know the place.

Additionally, after you submit the form informing them you would like to deliver there you receive an appointment to visit the place and express your preferences.

The staff was amazing! We highly recommend this hospital.
