Ok this place is my last hope as i tried everything and nothing works.
I have 3 cats. Mommy, daddy and baby. Mommy and daddy always use the litter box when they need to. Baby most of the times uses the floor outside the bedroom. Not nice.
I tried everything i can think of. New litter tray. Doesnt work. Changing types of cat litter. Nope. Used some deterrent spray. Nah nah. Vet told me i need to wash the floor with a detergent that doesnt contain bleach and then put bleach in the litter tray because apparently cats love the smell. Well guess who is the only cat in the world that doesnt! And it doesnt matter if the tray is dirty or clean. For him the floor is so much better!
Does anybody have the same problem? I dont know what to do anymore!
put her/his poopoo in the box and then show him/her. maybe it'll get the hint. try cleaning with white vinegar. cats don't like it. also, put the cat at night in a small space (bathroom?) with just food and box. then he/she is forced to use it .
I would have to ask how many litters do you have? Maybe if you have only 1, the kitten does not feel comfortable going in there. Our vet recommended to have 1 litter more than the number of cats, so if you have 3 cats you should have 2 litters. I have 2 cats now and have 2 kitty toilets...I am planning on getting another one soon though.
Also, you might want to check with the vet and see if she /he has an infection???
There are other cleaners for sale at petshops for cleaning furniture and floor of poopoo or peepee smell so if vinegar doesnt;t work you could try them...how old is the kitten btw? is it a male?
I cant remember the names sorry. Im using the Migros budget one now because its the easier to clean. I know that i definetely did not try the silica one though so thats another thing to try. Where can i get that from?
It comes in a pink bag and I got it at the coop, it only cost about 6.- CHF and I just have to replace it about every 2-3 weeks (removing the poo daily).
WOW! How did you manage to get him to do that? Loki is not the brightest fella, I would be afraid that he would fall in! (He falls into the bathtub on a regular basis).
Nah, nothing to do with brightness, in fact more to do with stupidity. Google "Citikitty". You trick them into using the toilet over time. My cat was highly allergic to every litter, now he just uses the toilet. I wake up in the morning, flush, and get on with my day. Revolutionary. (my cat below)
1. since you have 2 litter box, have 1 specifically for your kitten. Wash it thoroughly, new cat sand. This is the remove any leftover smell of other cats (the parents) as some cats dont like to share cat sand. if you happen to have the chance to see the kitten poo in the sand once, reward with some treats.
2. you need to be a bit cruel....lock the kitten in cage throughout the whole course. A small tray of cat sand next to the kitten +small bowl of water. He/she is only out during food. if you happen to have the chance to see the kitten poo in the sand once, reward with some treats.
3. if you don't want to do step 2, take a slower way. When the kitten poo, pick up the poo, put into the new sand, tell the kitten. from time to time, take the kitten and put he/her in the cat sand (which already got his previous poo buried) and tell him to poo there. wait and see. At night time, like the member says, keep the kitten in a small room with the same cat sand box (with his poo) and a bowl of water.
I'll again suggest Feliway (I should get a commission for plugging that stuff so much!). Also, it is usually suggested to have one litter box per cat, plus one. We've got two cats, and three boxes.
You should maybe try different litter in the boxes to find out which one he likes best.
I was advised to put my kitten in her litter tray shortly after she had her meal and to gently press her paws in the litter. it did not take her long to make the association.
You can try restricting the problem cat to a single room that can't be damaged (if you have such a room) and keep working with it until it uses the cat box correctly. Then you can expand the area the cat is allowed to be.
If you keep your door closed this may be acting out.
Some cats do indeed prefer their own litter box and will not share. I would get an additional one.
Also, I've had great success with littler from Fressnapf. The litter is sort of gray blue, very small granules, very "sand like", comes in a large clear plastic bag and the sand is perfumed. I think all the cats I've been with have loved this litter the moment they stepped in it. Maybe it's easy on their paws, and it's incredible when it comes to absorbing smells and urine.
I unfortunately don't have the name of this particular litter in my head right now, but I think you see some kind of persian cat, sorta gray blue on the cover along with a little purple or pink coloring on the bag... Price is okish, but I've found that I need to change the litter a lot less often as well now.
