Help needed - Buying computer in Switzerland

Hi all

I have just moved to Switzerland and I absolutely have no clue about where to buy stuff. I want to ask if there is anywhere in Zurich where I can buy laptops for good price?

More specific: I want to get an ASUS VX7 (the Lamborghini series), but in orange. They only have it in black in digitec.ch, the first online store i found. Payment method preferably Cash on Delivery

Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the forum.

Use the search function as I am sure there is already plenty of suggestions for all of your "where to buy" questions. Including brown sugar.

I just realized...Yea i found the where to buy and such, but none of them has the laptop i wanted

have you tried asus's own online shop??

http://shop.asus.de/shop/de/de-de/home.aspx

i kinda need a real store so i can come and see.

but THANKS. silly me. should have tried that first -.-

and they don't have it -.-

the usual suspects are

mediamarkt

fust

interdiscount

conrad

steg computers

and digitec

last time I saw the lambo pc's was in the big interdiscount at the top end of zurich high street, that was a while ago, and they where silly expensive

Digitec has a "real" store where you can go and look at the black version -- then you can buy your orange one elsewhere. Or do you really need to see the orange in the flesh? I can tell you what it'll look like:

not really for a laptop like that i wouldn't mind spending the cash. well i'll check those stores. and hopefully find the one i want

this one

have you checked toppreise.ch for the price comparison yet? digitec usually gives the best price, but sometimes you can find better options.

Nearly 3 grand for an i7 laptop ... hmmmm ...

Anyway, here are a few stores that currently stock your Lambo.

500chf for the laptop and 2.5k for the cheap stick on badge, bargain

just to add

its probably cheaper to buy from the uk, especially if your earning chf

That way you can get the qwerty keyboard too.

I do realize there's a way of changing the keys but I still like the 'y' instead of the 'z'.

As I looked in the forum via Search and did not find that much up to date information about buying a computer in Switzerland, I thought I would provide some info on my current experience.

I am looking for a fairly specific high spec computer for my business.

I went to a STEG store and they recommended contacting their Luzern headquarters for help as they were the experts

http://www.steg-electronics.ch/de/Default.aspx

The good - they responded quickly with two quotes.

The bad - they did not read my requirements and sent quotes for inappropriate machines. I have talked to them twice since then asking them to provide a quote that matches my specs. Alas, radio silence since, and I get the distinct impression that the person I am in contact with does not really know what he is talking about. Overall disappointing.

Next up was Brack http://www.brack.ch/

It took longer for them to respond - but they appear to have provided a quote that meets my requirements. Alas, I have called and sent questions to the salesperson and they have not responded. I will try them once more, but one would expect a bit more service when one is expecting to spend 4,000 chf

My best experience so far was at Digitec https://www.digitec.ch/en

It is difficult to park there and you may have to wait a while, but the guy that helped me was VERY patient and knowledgeable. We reviewed all of my requirements and he cam up with a suitable proposal.

While I would really like to have three comparable quotes to make sure I am buying the right machine, as it is a substantial investment, for now https://www.digitec.ch/en is the clear leader in terms of responsiveness and customer service. Maybe that was because I was there directly - but I tried that approach with STEG and they referred me to their headquarters.

No purchase yet - but just wanted to provide some info on my experience, as there seemed to be very little recent commentary on purchasing computers here in Zurichh.

Hope this helps some people that are searching for info.

A lot of people on here work in I.T. and know exactly what they want.

A lot of others don't really care as almost anything you can buy nowadays will do most non-specialist tasks without problems.

I am sure you are right. My requirements are fairly high end and specific.

A friend who is also in IT wrote me the following:

Yeah... But years ago I used to work at a retail shop... The margin then was about 15%... So now days the margin must be around 5% so maybe the problem is they just can't afford to. But digitec is different... The business operates with different margins and is really optimized. Probably a good choice.

He is probably right - so off to digitec I will go....

Thanks,
